  1. That's why I need suggestions, trying to have it ready before I move. I have no idea when it comes to body work.
  2. that sounds kinky flatcat... he is right though, does the carb squirt gas, does the engine turn, is there spark? if it turns, has gas, and has spark, check timing. If timing is good check compression.
  3. Ok, so I have one year to figure out what I'm going to do with the B210. Either yard art or get the damn thing on the road so it can make the 500 mile trip to my new home next August. Engine wise I have a decent plan of attack, but since I'm moving somewhere with yearly snow, I would like to take care of the rusty odds and ends. Excuse the shitty drunk cell phone photo, but this is what I'm dealing with: There are 5-6 spots like the door and rear wheel well all around the car. I'm wondering what the best plan of attack will be. Do I just sand it and hit it with some epoxy primer? This will never be a show car and I don't plan on some massive paint job, but eventually I am thinking I want to plasti-dip it. Please share pics and stories as well as tips to prep it for snowy/salted roads. Edit: Well, I've been informed this is not just a little problem, Looks like it's rot.
  4. I second this motion! only because it is sexier even though it is a little less powerful in stock trim. Both of these options will make the a-series feel like a tonka toy engine On a dfferent note, unless you plan on competing with the car, I don't see the weight difference damaging drivability much. Like Mike said, lowering and stiffer springs will help greatly. I would be more worried about the added power and possible damage to your rear end and getting brakes beefy enough to stop it reliabbly. People have put VG engines in these bad boys and still been able to drive them effectively and I think those weigh more than an SR with all the bells and whistles.

Maybe tanker-fever has taken over. Probably sent the lug nuts to the chrome shop... I'm still loving the truck. Not sold on the white roof but that's probably because I haven't seen it yet. Love the off white wheels. The plasti-dip idea sounds great. Can't wait to see how it turns out.
  6. Yea, I just don't want to get stuck paying $2000 for a set of the datsport struts/brakes that they say will fit behind 13"s (aftermarket). Mainly because it's a lot of money, but even then I don't know where to find pads for the "girlock" calipers. I'm not sure if the 1200 kit will fit. From what I understand the entire strut/brake setup is different between the two. That is pretty awesome. It tore through the plastic like it wasn't anything. The sprinkler effect was nice, it's like you're a pro or something :P So is there any way to capture all of the debris? It's kinda worrisome that you'll be spitting out metal that far. Just think about all of that metal in your keyboard...
  7. Damn texas for being so awesome
  8. Wow that's scary man. Glad to hear nothing else got seriously damaged. And here I was worried about those acorns the squirrels dropped down my carb...
  9. That green may have been my Bs original green. What is the color code? That blue one looks rough, would make a great rat but I would be scared to see what kind of rust it's hiding. However... I want that passenger fender  Here is a shot for color comparison. It's similar:
  10. That's the thing, I have only really needed to make something a few times so I can't justify it. The things I have needed to make were a crossmember for the roadster, flanges for a few projects, and some tools/furnace accessories to refurbish my grandpa's blacksmithing setup so I can start that hobby again. For me I think it's more that I would love to know how to do it, but in all honesty wouldn't use it enough. Like blacksmithing, my grandpa taught me how to make knives, and for about two years I made knives, ferrier supplies and some tools, then I got out of it. I love watching lathes and mills though. I'll definitely be watching this to see what neat things you create. Who knows, maybe you'll get a B210 disc brake kit that'll be awesome and fit under 13" wheels :P
  11. Cause a filter should be more than cardboard, coffee filter material, an cheaply joined metal... my first car had a fram that leaked around the bottom, but it wasn't the seal. It was the threaded cap where its connected to the rest of the filter. Now I'm not gonna say any specific brand cause all companies seem to be going cheap these days, but at least try to get one without the cardboard ring in the bottom. Most oils including synthetics can break down this cardboard media and if it fails in the right (wrong) area the filter material will dislodge into the engine blocking oil passages
  12. Thanks guys. As it sits both of my projects have free spinning engines now, but that's about as far as I've gotten. The b210 had a rancid smell in the fuel tank so I had it cleaned. The b210s Carb was trashed so I'll be putting a spare Weber on it. The roadster is pretty much complete, but I haven't checked the tank or any other moving parts.
  13. Nice, I've since moved to 14x6.5 wheels but still haven't found the rubber to run. I'll check my stock tires on the 13" pizza cutters tomorrow so I can at least get the tires height similar.
  14. Good calls thisismatt and flatcat. Any tips on priming the oil pumps for an A-series and a U20?
  15. Second list would be prior to first test drive: Check brakes. Make sure all lights work. Make sure there aren't any leaks. Make sure the tires aren't trash (forgot this one before...) Make sure steering system doesn't bind. Make sure clutch engages properly. This one I am pretty lost on. Is there anything I need to check with the rear axle and should I lube everything according to whatever specs? Please list anything I'm leaving out. I know I'm missing a crown royal bag and hello kitty duct tape, but what else?
  16. Ok, lets say you ran across a Datsun, unknown condition, sitting for at least 6 years. Full of nut shells, sticks, rodent nests, but the body is in good shape and everything is in tact. Cracks in the plastic parts and vinyl, but nothing is missing as far as you can tell. You bite the bullet and purchase this unknown project. What do you check prior to trying to fire it up? So far this is what I've come up with: Respirator. Fuel tank, hose, and lines. Vacuum hoses. Coolant level, radiator hoses, and radiator + cap. Plug wires. Replace all filters, flush the fuel lines. Check fuses and fusible link (if applicable) Check to make sure clutch is not stuck engaged. Check connections and wires to starter, alternator, and distributor. Check spark plugs, cap, rotor, points for noticable damage and proper gaps. Adjust valves. Check timing. Prime oil pump. Get some oil in the cylinders . Oil cam lobes. Make sure the crank turns freely. Anything else for the first start? This is not taking into account a test drive so no need for a brake check atm. EDIT: Includes tips :)
  17. No hello kitty = not even close to done :sneaky:
  18. That is pretty awesome. I would love to learn basic machining for small projects but I have no idea where to start. Fabrication has been a big intrest of mine for a while. Love th work you do Mike, be careful moving that big boy around :P
  19. Well, I finally got caught being too trusting. Master-o-turbonics (Daniel Miller) talked me into delivering parts with another delivery I had to do almost 6 weeks ago. He has avoided all attempts for me to get my payment or my parts back. I trusted him because he is a reputable member of Georgia Datsun Owners FB group. Sadly it's my fault for being naive, but people should know.

  20. Wow, what a start. Looks like you have all the ducks in a row. Can't wait to see the swap. Only thing is we need moar pics! :P Oh, and that muffler looks a little silly :poke:
  21. Someone motivate me to finish this stupid college paper so I can get to work on the B...

I wrote two English finals about my 521 at the time. A on both. I actually got more work done as a full time student than I do as a civilian.

I wish I could write about my hobbies. I'm sruck in this programming algorithm class writing about work. So tired of working on databases all day then coming home to write about them...

  22. Wow, that's nasty. Think I'll stick to the mountain bike :P What is the plan on the rebuild? Just going to rebuild it for a fix or going for more performance? I'm not sure how bad your bike is, but when my Kawasaki grenaded a piston I ended up needing to replace everything. Ended up selling it for parts and bought my B210 :P
  23. Wow, nice progress on that bed, diff, and springs. Looking very good. I'm not sure what your options are on the other side of the world, but if you are replacing the bushings I would try to stay away from the Thailand stuff. Try to find genuine Japanese rubber. I replaced my leaf bushings on the 620 with Thai reproductions and they were hard and squeaky. All of the noise of urethane bushings without any of the added stiffness in the ride. I replaced them with some rubber ones out of the salvage yard after a month of squeaking. The weather striping from Thailand is hit or miss, but 90% of the companies that sell the stuff get them from Thailand anyway, so not many options there unless you cut your own weather striping. Good luck with the restoration. Makes me wish I had held on to my 620 :(
  24. This is a goon bling thread. Kinda like goons Unite or some shit :P
