Too many literalists here.Obviously,you can scrap it for more than $50.Not the point-it's not worth(based on the OP's description) anywhere near $600.I live in "rust free sheetmetal central"-these cars are long gone.I've seen two(maybe)in 10 years.

Don't waste your time.Get a 67 to 72 manifold instead.Stick with factory or a Performer RPM.Performers are a waste of money.

Trace the sender wire to make sure it's not grounding on something.

The key switch controls power to the harness & starting/ignition circuit.Highly doubtfull that the switch is causing a running issue.
