wheelman
I'm new here, ran across the site while trying to find some parts for a 1974 B210 I'm doing some work on for some friends. Anyway I own a 1973 240Z with the following Mods: (Please no V8 swap haters) 1995 Chevy LT1 and 5-speed transmission LT4 hotcam High rev valve springs Custom tune in PCM Dynoed at 275 hp and 307 ft/lbs torque at the rear wheels 3.54 R200 Clutch type Power Brute LSD 300 ZX Turbo CV axles 1999 Subaru Forrester Power steering rack 2001 Camaro fuel tank Coil overs 250 lbs/in front 225 lbs/in rear Tokico Blue HP strut inserts MSA sway bar set (1" front 7/8" rear) The body is in rough shape but I've installed ZG flares to cover the 10"x16" rims. It's primarily an auto-x car but is still street legal. I don't have any pictures to post (it's to ugly anyway) but here is a Youtube video of an auto-x run from 2007 when I was running a different set of rims and street tires. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Azjf_6PF2uo Whelman Quote Link to comment
BvtnDave
Hey W, This group is "Ratsun" for a reason. Anyway anyone wants to put their car together should be fine. We have them to enjoy 'em. Besides, there are plenty of other forums for those who want to take everything seriously. So, have fun with your V-8 Z, and welcome aboard. (I'm recent too...) wheelman
Welcome and may I be the 1st to say.... pics? :-) Are you the same wheelman from hbz? Yep, same guy. Guess I need to track down some pictures and get them posted. I suppose I could post an old auto-x picture or 2. Wheelman Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
That reminds me. The best sounding car I ever -- ever -- have heard was a 240Z with a chevy V8. I don't usually like the chevy V8 sound (prefer ford 302 sound), but that Z was just right. Quote Link to comment
wheelman
Ok, here is a picture of the beast. I call it the Pheonix because I've rebuilt it twice now, the first was the initial drivetrain swap, the second was after I slid it into a curb auto-xing on Labor day weekend 2007. Skib
welcome to Ratsun man, theres a few of us from Hybrid here Quote Link to comment
SHADY280
hey car doesnt have to look pretty, its what it does that counts. yup coupla hybridz members here. you have good throttle control and good tires to not slide that beast around. either that or your not pushing hard enough!!!! that course would be great fun, looks lots faster than my local one they set up, ours is very tight, 60mph is as fast as the cones will let me go. LAYEDOUTB2K
welcome man. are you from the tri-cities? i saw a craigslist post looking for the same things you are. that auto x video is pretty cool. ive ran my shifterkart in the autocrosses here and will probably bring my 1200 out this year. wheelman
Yeah I'm from the Tri-Cities, live in Kennewick just south of 10th on Underwood. That's my craigslist ad, looking for B210 parts. Seems most of those cars have met the crusher or something, parts are a little hard to come by. Thanks for the comments guys and yes the car is a real beast to drive. That video was before the accident when I was still running street tires, it was much more of a handful then. This last season I ran 265/45-16 Kumho V700 Victoracers so had better grip but still managed to spin it a couple times. Next season I plan to move to Hoosiers, might actually be able to pull a "Fast Time of the Day" with them. :) Wheelman Quote Link to comment
LAYEDOUTB2K
thats cool. i live in kennewick too by winco. i have a '72 b110 air cleaner assembly that probably fits on a b210. i adapted mine to accept a universal air cleaner. Quote Link to comment
72240z
I would think so(best time of the day), you should be nabbing it already. A well tuned s30 v8 is unstoppable lol. Did you see vids of the last time clive(evilz) and others hit the track? I think it was spring. Everything under $120k was passed and flat out embarrassed by like 6k worth of ls1 z. They drove there and back too. The power/weight ratio is just crazy. Better then an exige. Quote Link to comment
wheelman
I'm down a little power wise from Clive but yeah the power to weight ratio for my car is roughly 9.2:1 at the rear wheels and 7.69:1 at the flywheel. :) It's tough to get FTD when you're running tires that don't have good grip, plus my club has some very good drivers running some quick cars. There are 4 cars that swap FTD most of the time: An SM2 C4 Vette, an SM 240SX with SR20DET, a CS Miata with an unreal driver and an ESP Mustang Cobra. I was able to run within a second or so of those guys with the Victoracers in good shape so hoosiers should really help. I also need to improve my driving and do something to improve my brakes, they have a tendancy to lockup if I get on them to hard. Wheelman Quote Link to comment
Phlebmaster
WELCOME TO THE FAMILY! :D Nice Z Quote Link to comment
72240z
Ya, I know, just half teasing lol, it's hard. The half where I'm not teasing is you have the platform avail, your car in tune with better wheels/brakes as you plan should be it, at that point I'd say its more you then the car. What brakes are you running? I was surprised not to see anything in your initial post. Pics of the 210 ready yet? :-) Quote Link to comment
wheelman
I'm running Toyota 4x4 calipers with stock rotors in the front and completely stock drums in the rear. I think my real problem is the pads/shoes are cheapo Schucks parts. I figure if I move to some higher end pads and shoes I'll be fine. These calipers produce a LOT more clamping force than the stockers though so even different pads may not eliminate the lockups. I want to replace the rear drums with disks, just haven't had the chance yet, probably after this coming season. Not sure I'll be posting pictures of the 210, it's not my car and needs even more work than the Z. I'm reworking it for some friends who bought it for $300.00. The prior owners had cut a hole in the roof to install a sun roof but never completed it, instead they screwed on a piece of plexiglass with RTV to seal the hole. I've welded in a piece to fix the hole but in the process found out something big had fallen on the left side roof at some point. Whoever fixed it did a pretty good job, the filler was very thin and it was almost impossible to tell it was damaged until the bondo came up after I started welding. It's amazing how far that heat will travel through thin metal. So now I get to redo all that work as well as all the basic maintenance the car needs. It's a good thing I like working on cars, otherwsie I'd give it back to them the way it is. :) Wheelman Quote Link to comment
datrod
First let me say, WELCOME TO RATSUN. I had the same problem as your having with brakes. I was running the yota 4 pistons up front and stock drums in the rear. :poop: Then I changed the wheels and had to go back to stock front calipers. (Well that sucked) so I put disc on the rear problem solved. I now run 16X10" wheels and still run the stock fronts no problem. I could go back to the yotas up front but I'm too lazy. And the brakes don't lock up anymore. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Nice looking Ratsun -- more go, less show. Those back tires are a beast. Quote Link to comment
