five1oh
First day back I loaded up the kids and their "luggage" and did a school run. Happy to report I didn't bottom out and car drove flawlessly. Added a bunch of miles over the weekend too without issue. SO HAPPY!!!!!!! five1oh
Last mod to complete the Showa 47 to Showa 45 (1972-1970) front end was the side markers. The front sidemarkers in '72 are noticably larger so I was concerned the lights would not cover the holes. After testing it appeared they would almost cover one side and barely cover the other. The next problem was how to mount them. I ended up buying a strip of aluminum to create a custom backing plate by drilling holes in it for the light socket and mounting screws. Since the fender is ever so slightly curved (close to flat) by tightening the bolts the light and backing plate sandwich together like a clamp while the rubber seals keep pressure and prevent the lights from moving. Grill had to come off in order to access the wires. The new lights came with a new seal that goes from fender to headlight bucket so that was nice as well. Super happy with my ingenuity and the results. A bunch of road miles will tell if they loosen or move but feel extremely solid. Looks so good 🙂 Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr 1 Quote Link to comment
five1oh
Started tackling the rear conversion last night. So good. My friend Ralph came over to help me wire up the new "stock" taillights. My car had LED and bunch of different wiring going on so we had to take out a bunch and create new to the factory wires. It got late so only one side is complete. Plan is to finish on Thursday. five1oh
Finally finished the tail lights and rear conversion to Showa 45. Ralph had to come over a third time because after he got the right side working when I tested the blinker both sides blinked. We fixed it by putting the diodes back in each side of the harness that was there for the LED. Ralph said likely the current was so strong that it went back into the harness and to the other side. Anyways everything works now!! I just need to give the car a wash before datslocos and finish my tri brace install 🙂 Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr My son did a great job helping lol Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Once complete I taped up the wires and took into the court for some pics Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Quote Link to comment
five1oh
I have been toying with the idea of putting a racing livery on the car and my friend Alex was running some stickers on his sunny ute. He showed me that they were just magnets so I decided that would be a great way to go to see if I liked it as they can easily be put on for a show or moved, etc. Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr testing testing Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr well........the whole car accepted the magnet except for the passenger side rear....uggh. five1oh
The P sticker in the rear stands for Prince Nissan Tokyo. I did that on a magnet as well. Also, I realized I never shared the speakers I am running. They are the same as the ones I had in the cactus green 510. Pioneer TS-X11. The sound is great and they fit well. five1oh
Now with lights working had to go drive at night! I am loving the new look of the car. On my drive two of my lights flickered and went out, probably an easy fix maybe wiring but will need to look at that later. five1oh
Last night after dinner took the car downtown again to take the kids for a walk before bedtime. We stayed generally close and there were at least 5 different people in the 20-30 min we were there that either pulled over or walked up and took pictures around the car. Also, while driving there and back I saw constant phones out poking above steering wheels or out the window driving by lol. RyanC
This thread is killing me! Such a nice ride. They are my favourite Skyline! Love using the 4 door for the family/everyday enjoy it thats what its all about. Maybe with the way prices are I can get my 620 sold / swapped for a 4 door but prices downunder are ridiculous. But might be in the ball park. Keep the story coming! 1 Quote Link to comment
five1oh
I have been driving the skyline as much as possible. In the past 3 weeks the only vehicles I have driven are it and my motorcycle to commute 2 of my 3 days per week in the office. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it) the constant pulling in and out of the garage at my ride height is causing a hole in my exhaust 😂 Every time I enter and exit the garage the mid car muffler catches the edge of the cement. The good news is that the current exhaust system hangs down about 3/4 to 1 inch lower that the rocker panels or belly of the car meaning once my buddy makes my new exhaust this problem will go away 🙂 Anyhow last week I moved some paperwork from my kids current school to their new school. And Saturday night 2 friends and I cruised out to a new Boba shop opening in Walnut Creek. My friend Ralph complained of how slow I drove out there and said he would lose me on the way home. Determined to prove him wrong I was hauling ass and hit 168kmh on the way home (I was also able to avoid bottoming out because I know the freeway well). Car was pretty loud when I got home due to the exhaust issue getting worse. Guess its time to swap my triple 40's from my FLZ and do this exhaust.....that also means the 3.2 stroker will be going in the FLZ soon...
