Unless one of the bearings seized and ruined the spindle, it probably just needs inner and outer bearings replaced and repacked with new grease. Bad bearings make a growling sound. Ehhhh the hub was bad to begin with. I said fuck it and put it together anyways. Now its kicking my ass. So im going to cut them off and start over. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
What is bad? The spindle runs on replaceable bearings mounted in the hub. Cut what off???? Quote Link to comment

So im just going to buy a new pair of used 280zx spindles and have them welded up to my struts again with new bearing and seals. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
There were two outer bearings and races for the 610. Earlier ones were the same as the 510 and were smaller. If you have a '74 and older hub but an early bearing and race it might appear loose in the hub. No one cuts the spindle off and welds them to their strut tubes. And certainly not those from a 280zx. The 280zx has a different caliper mount spacing so your 610 calipers won't fit, nor will the 280zx caliper fit the 610 rotor. What's usually done is the 280zx strut us entirely swapped for the 610 struts. Quote Link to comment

He's using just the spindles from 280zx, with new tubes welded on. Although, not sure why he's redoing that work if it's just the hubs that have spun bearings, but maybe the spindles we're damaged also 🤷♂️ Quote Link to comment

Completely fried the spindles. Lotta heat marks on them now. So i replaced it all. Now i have a spare set of zx spindles and hubs to throw away. Or repair idk. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The strut tubes are welded to the spindles at the factory. If you get a set of zx struts just put them on as they are. Maybe these are the tubes you mean? Quote Link to comment

Crashtd420
My biggest fear daily driving my datsun.... Thankfully not in the datsun but in my pos chevy truck.. I had some old lady at a red light just put it in reverse and start backing up... Then just drove away like nothing happened ... I had a front hitch on the truck so no damage..... Are you going to try to fix it? 1 Quote Link to comment
