Radiator for the 84 720 with the z20 2.0 with mileage option

Is there any reason I couldn't replace the radiator in my 84 720 with say the radiator from d21 it looks like the dimensions would work as the rad from the d21 is roughly an inch smaller on every dimension, inlet and outlet are the same 1.375 inches

Mounting would likely be your major hurdle.  You might have to get funky.  But if it fits in the space, and you can hook hoses to it, you should be just fine.  I have a 1988 prelude radiator in my 510 wagon.

Awesome thanks for the advice. The rad for the truck I have is a special order that will take time to get and it costs half again as much as the d21 rad

I get that.  I put 96 pathfinder brakes on my 720 for the same reason.  Half the cost, immediate availability, and even added some diameter to the brakes 😄

Do you have a radiator shop in your area? They should be able to re-core it without any problem, then you know you have the right radiator.

The top and bottom tanks are usually undamaged but the vertical tubes and fins are easily damaged specially by age. The tanks can be unsoldered and a put on a new core...

Your probably more familiar with the more modern radiators with the plastic tanks that have to be replaced if they break. One nice thing about this older stuff, a lot of it can be rebuilt.

A buddy worked with the 'new' then GM rads with plastic tanks. The aluminum core is crimped on. He figured you could uncrimp and change the tank 1 maybe 2 times then the aluminum would snap.

Are the replacement aluminum core plastic tank radiators obsolete now.  I have been running one of these for several years now in my 86 2wd King Cab.

 

Z24 radiator is the same.

I am running an all metal autozone stock 1982 720 with my KAe no issues. I don't think it was over $140 brand new maybe less. 3 years all good

Widen your search to include a Z24 rad. That would work amply on a smaller Z20.

That’s a new one for me. Did not know the newer radiator’s could be rebuilt.

I looked it up and only saw people trying to fix cracked tanks. I doubt replacing the aluminum with the. Old plastic would make sense.

For some reason at Autozone the 84 Z20 radiator is more expensive than the 85 Z24.  Autozone does show a listing for both radiators.

The Z20 option is more rare and it may simply be a single core vs. dual core for the Z24.

If that is the case I would run the cheaper Z24 radiator as they bolt in the same.

When I search auto zone the only radiator it pulls up for the z20 is listed as unavailable

Even when I go pull it up for the z24 they show it available for delivery until you try to order it and then it says no longer available
