skyblue
July 13, 2020 Next up was getting the exhaust back stock. Took out the eBay header and pieced together the cast iron exhaust manifold and down pipe. I ended up getting a better down pipe than the one pictured. WTF? Orange sealant on the exhaust? Lol. cleaning up mating surface and threads. Car had no O2 sensor, smh. Just this red wire going nowhere. what is wrong with people? Painted manifold with high temp paint. egr tube was cut and hacked closed. so I replaced it with a cleaner solution temporarily. Put it all back together with a cat and eBay exhaust for the time being. frame rails are destroyed. Lol. Fired it up. Edited January 16, 2022 by skyblue 2 Quote Link to comment

skyblue
July 22, 2020 Trans oil change. Not what you want to see. 😬 alignment recheck. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
GL-4 oil I hope. This is normal for transmission that was never changed or not changed in the last 20 years. Second third and forth owners never drive it long enough to even think about an oil change so it sips through the cracks. Clean it and next oil change in 30K you'll have a better gauge on the recent were. be thankful you didn't see pieces of bearing race. I've seen them with ball bearings stuck on... 3 1 Quote Link to comment
skyblue
I think it was GL-4, but can’t remember for sure it’s been a while. Lol. thanks for the tranny oil info. There were definitely no big pieces of metal. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Look at the label. I worry that some minimum wage counter kid at NAPA will five you GL-5 which is not good to your synchros. Definitely ask for GL-4 in three years. Quote Link to comment

Lozer
The drain plug don't look that bad. The 71c transmission isn't very hard to rebuild and the bearings are plentiful. Here's what mine looked like on first drain. (was just the front idler bearing). The restoration is looking good. Quote Link to comment

Holy crap!! I’ve never rebuilt a tranny. It looks scary. Lol. I’ll probably get it rebuilt by a shop. thanks! Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
Manual transmissions are easier to rebuild than those frame rails haha. 1 2 Quote Link to comment

sick620
I think its so crazy that the 240's are all so clapped out all the time... like you never ever see one with matching body panels and dent free lol.. So much so that this thing is a super clean car lol looks like a great start I always wanted one. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Remember those idiots that were drifter wannabeez?? That incredibly stupid pass time that I won't call a 'sport'? It always ended with an accident or series of accidents till the car was unfixable. Well the 240sx was a favorite for this and why there are so few and all are patch work of miss matched body parts.. 1 Quote Link to comment
skyblue
Hahaha. You guys crack me up. July 25, 2020 I decided to paint the over fenders with some plastidip and found a color that was really close. These were pretty rough so I had to do quite a bit of sanding and also carved in the body line that was missing. Several hours and 2 cans of plastidip later I had one “matching” panel lol. 1 Quote Link to comment

skyblue
July 26, 2020 The windshield wipers weren’t working and so pulled one off and this is what I saw. Completely stripped out. Lol. July 27, 2022 Installed the factory air pump cause CA. Lol. July 29, 2020 bought some nice 8mm spacers to replace some crappy ones. July 30, 2020 The fan clutch was on its way out so I ordered one from rockauto. But there was a problem. 😕 something didn’t look right. had to send it back and put everything back together until I could find the right one. 🙄 July 31, 2020 OEM air filter to replace the Fram 🤮. It was pretty dirty. 1 Quote Link to comment
