matinicus
Hi all, I either need to find a used engine or I am interested in whether a late model 4 or 6 will fit, preferably fuel-injected. If anyone has a good motor I'm interested! Thanks! Quote Link to comment
Bleach
KA24e from a Hardbody truck will fit or even the DOHC version from a Nissan Frontier. I think those newer 4-cyl engines will be the least amount of trouble. Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
I sell mounts that allow you to bolt a KA right into a 720. Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
You don't say what state you live in. If you have to pass emissions, that's one reason to stay simple, like with a KA24E. If you do no need to pass emissions, I'd go crazy with something like a Ford Ecoboost V6. Have you thought about how much money you want to throw at it? Quote Link to comment
matinicus
It has Historic plates - so emissions not an issue. I'm looking for a bolt-in - at most motor mounts. I don't have the shop resources to do a swap that needs a lot of adapter parts. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Wouldn't a KA swap eliminate it as an historical vehicle? Quote Link to comment
matinicus
I've heard it has to pass whichever is later, e.g. an 2005 engine in a 1985 body would have to meet 2005 emissions, but no one I know who has done this has ever been caught. They don't go around checking. 1 Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
Contact redeye for his mounts. ONLY "bolt in" motor swap there is for the 720. Quote Link to comment
bottomwatcher
Kind of bolt in. You will have to modify oil pan, exhuast, radiator plumbing then there are the festivities with the engine harness and ecu. I used Redeyes mounts and ice houses can am box. The mounts were great and the can am simplified the wiring but the devil is in the details. Look up Cryteck89 post on the swap his is probably the most detailed and honest sum of what it takes. I did the swap on my 720 4x4 several years ago and love it, but when folks mention bolt in it is misleading. If you don't have a shop, tools and a welder stick with just replacing what you have. I picked up a long block for 200 but the swap was around 2k in the end chasing all the parts. Quote Link to comment
