Jcooper
I came across this 520 on a whim from my brother. I come from a family of 'pickers'- where sometimes we can find the coolest things in the most random of places. He got a lead from one of his friends on a "datsun pickup" in Mohall, ND. Story goes that the gentleman who owned this truck had recently passed away and his wife was now stuck in the position to get rid of his 'junk'. I drove 9 hours to come see a reportedly "rust free pickup with clean title"...located in the prairie. This is about 2 miles from the pickup. When I got to the property this is what I found. A blue turd of sorts...with rust. Missing dash (though I have radio, knobs, instrument panel..etc...just not the dang dash to put everything on.) also...the previous owner had done some interesting wiring job...deleting the turn signals on the front fenders, and wiring up a 70s style nova grille in front. I was a little saddened that I had driven all this way on a lousy report of condition, but I only spent $100. Beneath this thing was a dead raccoon which I didn't get a picture of. My guess is that it was eating the mouse/rat poison the P.O. had placed in the cab. After cleaning out random old beer cans and debris from the bed- we loaded onto the car dolly and made my way back to my brothers for further inspection. This thing will definitely need some love, and If I can't find a replacement dash in any condition, or the front grille..I may end up parting it out. But with a clean title...who knows at this point. Time to clean, organize and vacuum out random crap. Found the original horn emblem..that was a plus. Trying to figure out why he put amber lights in the rear and attempted to wire up circular stop lenses. Rocker repair will need to be finished. Looks like this one was cut out awhile ago. Is this the normal position for the oil filter? yep. Had to replace trailer tires as I caught a nail in the road. Luckily it was right in front of a wally world in Bismarck. 2 Quote Link to comment

Jcooper
Kinda torn in parting out. I just hate to see datsuns die...but at the same time it's like organ donation, one dies so the others live. I'm planning on keeping bumperetts and brackets. I have one guy who may buy the whole thing but if that falls through, parts will be available 1 Quote Link to comment
wayno
It would cost more for the grill than you paid for the truck, the dash would cost more also, so would a windshield, and since the rockers are gone, either I would part it out, or make it a farm truck that hauled farm stuff around on a farm, something a kid could learn to drive out in the back 40, a truck like that needs to be fairly complete to make it worth while to restore. That package tray might be worth some money, the bumperettes and mount brackets are also worth money if not to beat up. That lone rear reflector might be worth something also depending on condition, that is if you can get it off without damaging it, I would cut it all around it till it was loose and then remove it, you can get to the back side that way. To bad the dash is gone, is the glove box door still around, or did that go with the dash? 1 Quote Link to comment
