thisismatt
Do any of you guys have a stock engine bay inspection light/lamp? I know it was an option on the 520/521, but I haven't seen one installed and was wondering where the default installation location is. Pics? This is the kind I'm talking about: Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
I have one. I'll go snap pics in a sec. Quote Link to comment
dat521gatherer
That's for a 510 http://www.new-datsun-parts.com/datsun-510-parts-lights.html Quote Link to comment
dat521gatherer
This is the stock engine bay light for a 521 Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
I have never seen mine work until last week when I installed the IR alt. Then the damned thing would not turn off. I disconnected the wires. Now, it won't turn on. It's not a stresser to me. I can take it or leave it. Quote Link to comment
dat521gatherer
The switch that activates it is finicky and is same switch as the door jam dome light switches. Here is a rare inspection light for reference for anybody interested. Quote Link to comment
thisismatt
I have that one on my 521, however the one I'm asking about is shown as an option for the 520/521 as well. Is this image simply incorrect, then? Quote Link to comment

dat521gatherer
Stock location for the switch. Quote Link to comment
dat521gatherer
Did you get that from http://www.carpartsmanual.com/datsun/pickup-1965-1972 I have 4 or 5 different style 521 owners manuals and that light is not in there. However I dont have any 520 owners manuals to see the options. Quote Link to comment
thisismatt
Yup. Hmm, well, I might still use it some day. Got it from a 411 for a good price, and it actually has a glass lens in perfect shape, as opposed to the later plastic ones. Quote Link to comment
DanielC
The stock "permanently mounted to the firewall" engine room light in a USA 521 is powered when the lights are on. The plunger switch by the cowl ID place grounds the light when the hood id opened. If the light will not go on, is the lamp good? Is power getting to the light bulb socket? Is the switch grounding the socket, when the hood is opened? If the light will not go off, (with the lights on, and you have to push the plunger on the hood activated switch) there is a short to ground in the wire from the light socket to the hood switch. 1 Quote Link to comment

Yes you are correct. The little light only comes on when your lights are on and the hood open. I have a functioning factory one in my 520. Quote Link to comment

wayno
I found all these in Datsun/Nissan 720s, and I think I seen one in a full sized Ford also It does have a badge on the glass Quote Link to comment
dat521gatherer
Lights on not headlights though. Quote Link to comment
DanielC
Here is a lights only wiring diagram for Canada and USA 1970 521. The engine room light gets power from the tail light circuit. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I found all these in Datsun/Nissan 720s, and I think I seen one in a full sized Ford also It does have a badge on the glass wayno, maybe a US thing. Have looked for one (always wanted one) of these but only seen them on Z cars. 26740-B2000 is the 521 number I have but when checking, is shows the 620 having this same part but displays the tiny light bulb like Keith's. I had the one as shown by Keith on my 521. Quote Link to comment
thisismatt
The nice thing about these is the ability to move the lens wherever you need the light. Much more functional than the hood lamp Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Absolutely. Quote Link to comment
datsunaholic
My '68 520 has one. It's mounted on the driver's side tray, opposite the passenger-side fusebox. I just assumed the prior owner, who was an avid tinkerer, had added it from a junked Z car.(the truck has cruise control, 2 vacuum gauges, had electronic ignition at one point, delay wipers, and various other add on accessories) 1 Quote Link to comment
