dimlight65
We also found a Holley 2bbl carb in the cabinet today and I had it sent off to an rebuilder dude to see if it is an 300 or 500 cfm. If it is 300, I'm going to have it rebuilt and use it. If it is a 500, I'm going to offer it as a core on a rebuilt 300. So, I guess the long and the short of it is I'm planning, now, to use a 300 cfm Holley carb. Off to the interwebs to buy THAT adapter... and finned aluminum valve cover. 2 Quote Link to comment
KiloTango1200
Hammering in freeze plugs... All in... Fuel pump block-off... Scrubbing off all the dirt and grease (and half the paint)... Fresh coat of satin black... Didn't bother repainting the oil pan since we're still waffling on whether to change the gasket or not... Didn't bother repainting the valve cover because I know Tim will buy that ribbed aluminum one... Knights in Black Satin? Hopefully reaching the end? 2 Quote Link to comment

datsunfreak
Our adapter came in, But it turns out our adapter needs an adapter... So we got a 1" thick hunk of aluminum to make one (this is just a mockup, it'll be smaller when it's done)... Since we are now up high enough, we will probably use the Spectre air filter housing, then maybe a 90 elbow out of this, then a big cone filter... 4 Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
Started on the custom adapter. Main hole drilled, and holes for mounting it to the intake drilled, still need to countersink those... Also marking the holes for making the other adapter fit the one we are making. Then we are going to port the adapter we made a wee bit since this new adapter is made for a slightly bigger carb... 2 Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
Top and bottom holes drilled and tapped... Side holes drilled and tapped... Need to get the right hardware, countersink some of the holes, and the carb should be ready to go on... Still waffling on trimming the outside of the adapter down to make it less obvious. You can barely see it once the carb is on, and when it's in the van you definitely won't be able to see it, so... 2 Quote Link to comment
dimlight65
I just ordered a chrome valve cover, gasket, and stud/nut kit. Now I need to get the old donk out of the van! Stay tuned. 2 Quote Link to comment
dimlight65
Valve cover arrived today... at least I think that is what is in that long-assed box. Anyhoo, I'll probably slap that on tomorrow. Let's see, what else? Oh yeah, bought a set of Crown Victoria turbines for it today. They look amaze-balls! I hope John posts the pictures soon onnacounta I want to grok the thing some more! 2 Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
I hope John posts the pictures soon onnacounta I want to grok the thing some more! Went to the junkyard to find some stuff and as we are leaving Tim says HEY! Look over there! So he bought the wheels and tires off of that... Wheels and caps on... Decided to try and get it closer to the shop door to try and get the old engine out. Tried to air up the tires and do it yesterday, but the rear drums were seized and would not roll. After putting the new wheels and tires on, we rocked it back and forth for a few minutes and actually got the drums to free up! Test fit of the adapter(s) with the new hardware... Didn't like that step lip inside there, so out came the grinder bits... Not perfect, but a lot better than it was... Pulled the plywood off the floors. Main floor looks great, with no holes at all... Corners, not so much... Adapters bolted on for (hopefully) the last time, and carb test fit... Pushed the van over to the big door so hopefully next time we can pull that old engine out via the side doors... 6 Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
Those crown vic turbines look bitchin! I'm enjoying the build. Are you planning to lower it? Maybe I missed that discussion... I hope to build me a van someday. I want to build a late 70s Nissan e20 atlas, short wheelbase. I'm a little jealous of your toys :-) keep it up. Quote Link to comment
dimlight65
Are you planning to lower it? We keep going back and forth on that. One day I say, "Yes, let's drop the crap out of it." then we put these wheels on and I'm like, "Then again... this looks pretty good here." then we take a step back and John goes, "Yeah, but a smaller diameter tire and a drop would look so friggin' cool." I do need to replace at least one rear leaf spring but I'm having trouble finding replacements. We talked to a spring guy yesterday and he said $250.00 would fix the one borked leaf. I'm not ready to drop $1,000.00 for him to do all four though. I'll probably take him the two rears to have them match, then put in lowering blocks when reassembling. Up front we will probably replace the bushings and add blocks... unless we don't. So, to make a short story long, "Maybe?" 1 Quote Link to comment

dimlight65
So I says to myself, "Self, that looks like the same hole a Datsun A-series oil cap fits." So I went in and found one of my engines in storage and grabbed the bitchin' Japanese vented oil cap I bought some time ago. So, apparently Datsun uses a BIGGER hole than the domestics! So it don't fit fer nothin'. So... Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
So it don't fit fer nothin'. So... So we got the correct cap from the flaps... New grommet and new PCV valve (put a little sealer on it just in case)... Then we noticed that there is nowhere in the block for it to suck fresh air in from... :sneaky: Took off the fuel pump blockoff plate, drilled a hole in it, and welded on a right angle fitting. Now we can run a hose from it up to the breather tube so it has a place to draw in fresh air from... 2 Quote Link to comment
