a6m-zero
So your going to weld the tailgate shut, you seen that it still has a tailgate, it's just less than a foot tall, as that truck has had a major body drop. So far I have not seen one set of taillights that look decent with that look, not even Bobs looks right, and that truck is awesome. I am not a purist by any stretch of the imagination, if you have seen any of my builds you will know this already, but I do copy anything that looks good, I did this to get rid of the latches. Perhaps you can find something that is close to the 521 taillights, or just wait a while, I am sure a set will surface at some point. No will not be welding the tailgate cause that seems pointless to me. I will just be doing a filler peice where the taillights were, the 4-5 inches all the way across on the bottom. The latch delete looks really clean too, great job! 1 Quote Link to comment
wayno
That latch I put in there is kinda a hassle, even though the door lines look like the tailgate lines, they have different curves, but it looks cool, another thing I copied from someone else from a photo. That mod in the photo above also has modified rear box skirts, it gave that guy a little more metal to work with. This is what Bob did, the first version below. This is what it looks like now. Bobs rear skirts are not modified. 2 Quote Link to comment
mrbigtanker
I like the second version,I don't hate the tail lights but still getting used to it..that truck is really nice.A lot of work went in to that truck, wish I had his talent. 1 Quote Link to comment
wayno
I agree, the second version is the best. I like the second version,I don't hate the tail lights but still getting used to it..that truck is really nice.A lot of work went in to that truck, wish I had his talent. He also deleted the exterior hinges, that looks better also. 2 Quote Link to comment
a6m-zero
Yeah that second photo is great I really really like that look versus the stock tailights. Seems like datsun kinda just placed them in there with no finishing touches. 1 Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
get a Cig Lighter insert volt meter. They work good and cheap. Most alternators don't last long and you can tell waybefore the idiot light comes on if you have charging or over loading proplems 1 Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
This is one of the designs I came up with for the rear of my 520. Quote Link to comment
wayno
The whole thing could be a park light, and then if you could have 3 or 4 light sections in that, and have them blink towards the outside like the Cougars and Thunder birds did when the turn signal are on, I think that would be cool Charlie. 1 Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
Wayno please look at the image again I changed it. I posted the wrong image sorry. The turn signals are sequential and all rear lights are LED. 1 Quote Link to comment

DanielC
How did you do the receiver type trailer hitch? Is there actually a kit available, or did you scratch build something? 1 Quote Link to comment

Charlie69
How did you do the receiver type trailer hitch? Is there actually a kit available, or did you scratch build something? My little brother works at a heavy steel fab shop so it will be an easy build and probably free. I will draw up a simple plan and a list of materials used when I build it. It will be designed so the spare tire will still be in it's stock location with the rod raising and lowering it. Quote Link to comment

Read it good it fits the 620 pick up truck not the 521,it fits 73 thru 79. Not worth the pain and suffering. 1 Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
Contact Gene Knight he bought one for his 521 Grimace and then went a different direction. He is on here and face book. He might be able to help you with tail light parts. Quote Link to comment
a6m-zero
Okay I asked him thanks! 1 Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
Tell Gene I referred you. The picture you show of the rectangle piece out of the lens is repairable with a little super glue. Gene might be able to help you with your tail lights also. 1 Quote Link to comment
a6m-zero
Got a few tasks knocked out today! I wanted to clean the fuse block cause it was looking not up to par. In the removal I saw this. There is a crack in the block, after removing and cleaning this is it open. And this is closed.. I'm guessing it okay? All of the contacts and such are in the same positions and bolt down fine. Then I tackled the leaking valve cover. The reason it was leaking was 4 of the bolts holding it down were just sitting in the holes, not even finger tight. So changed the gasket, tightened the bolts all down and wala no oil leak! Then took it for a spin with my roommate ! It was breaking oddly when I brought it home from Portland, so I wanted to do a few hard stops to see if we could diagnose it. Well each time we did the breaking became BETTER! Soooooo after 5-6 hard stops they work like champs! Stop on a dime! So thankful! I also did the LED cluster mod! All red! I love it! 2 Quote Link to comment
blackdeth666
Can you share more details of how you added led's in your clucter? or is there a write up somewhere? I've had dim ass lights in my truck since I got it and it would be nice if I could see my gauges! 1 Quote Link to comment
