FOD is Foreign Object Damage and is used to denote any stray crap in the path of landing or take off airplanes. When the 737 was introduced for Alaskan service it came with a spike on the lower engine nacelle to deflect the usual Alaskan rough landing strips junk. Quote Link to comment
