MikeRL411
Up! I saw the "rescued" non Bay of Pigs version of these at Thon Su Nhaut AB on PSP planking taxiways circa 1962! Ci30 brakes, upgraded engines and bomb points from wind tip to fusilage! Saved from the Bay of Pigs but put to good use later! Real B26, not renamed A26 Farting Martins. Quote Link to comment
Profile
In 1962 I was working at Hill AFB in Ogden, Ut. Day after day real B-26's were flown in with all markings showing. After a few days they were flown out with no markings at all. At the time I worked for Zantop air cargo. Our head mechanic who also was in the AF national guard told me the planes were being flown to Cuba to help the goverment fight Castro. Sounds reasonable since Cuba's leaders were receiving aid from the US of A at that time. Quote Link to comment
Profile
The A26 Farting Martins killed many an Air Force crew in WW2 because they would not stay in the air on one engine. I have never seen one converted to private use. Quote Link to comment
Profile
Both airplanes (Douglas & Martins) were used at the same time at the start of the war. The Douglas model was called an A20 untill it replaced the Martins that were grounded as the Douglas were built in numbers and took over. Quote Link to comment

They eventually went to Than Son Nuit Vietnam. Quote Link to comment
