Fresh restoration down in New Zealand took flight for the first time. This one will be going to an American Collector who commissioned the restoration.

The composite consisted of a Short S-20 float plate "Mercury" attached to a Short S-21 Empire flying boat "Maia" Extending flying range was the aim in 1938, but only this one combination saw use.

 

The Short S-26 Empire flying boat had a longer range ending the need for the piggyback setup.
