tubbedbaggedstockfloored65
hey fellow ratsuners hows it going. im sort of new to this web site but i give props to everyone on here and all the knowledge you guys have provided me and ive learned so much thru this website/ community, my first datsun was a lowered 76 datsun 620 with rust and holes to match and i still have it and love it to death...but recently picked up a 75 datsun 620 4x4 and dont know entirely to much about it i have swapped out water pumps since old one stuck out past alternator and crank pulley about quarter of an inch , flushed radiator and a few other dinky things and still neeed to purchase a windshield for front and rubber seal...does anyone know where i can get the rubber trip for front window ? or will a company installing my new window provide that? anyway please guys post your 4x4s and tips and what not to help me out i am gunna post pics as soon as i take some after work tomorrow , REALLY stoked about this truck got some new tires and tread for it not much but 31s will do for now does any of you smart ratsun people know how to get a lift kit or raise it up even more so i can put biggger meatier tires on it? im pretty young and new to the 4x4 world and not sure exactly what kind of frame or axles or running gear its on so anything you guys can tell me would be appreciated and much obliged. posting pics tomorrow! lets all post your 4x4 620s! :) Quote Link to comment

SandyMush620
Nice 620. I love the 4x4's. The windshield installer can provide the rubber, or you can buy one online by itself or in a bundle with other gaskets. If it is the only weatherstrip you need, I would let the glass guy get it. There are several good 620 4x4 threads in progress here. You can try the search bar, but you may have better luck Googling something like "620 4x4 ratsun". Members Boxcar and J2edeye know everything they is to know about the 4x4 620 drivetrain business. :) 1 Quote Link to comment

OneFreakyMF
I'd seen that one on CL as well. Looked like a good project. Lifting it might be an adventure. As far as I know, the 620's never came from the factory with 4wd. It was a dealer/aftermarket option. I've heard of several different axle and spring configurations. Mine had Jeep CJ front springs, stock rear springs, and Dana 44 axles. The rear axle had spring perches that were six inches tall! Very goofy looking! What are your long term plans for this lil rig?? 1 Quote Link to comment

A body lift is the budget way to get some lift. I wouldn't recommend that with rusted out body mounts though... Re-arched springs will give some lift too, but you'll most likely need longer drive lines and double cardan joints if the u joint angles to to be too much... JC Whitney has dash caps and carpet kits. Neither are of very good quality. The steering box was my first mod to the 78 620 4X4 I bought last year. The stock one is to small for any decent sized tires and the ratio and 6 turns lock to lock sucks. Have a 07 jeep grand Cherokee box in mine now. Next suspension mods will be coil overs and 4 links front and rear. 1 Quote Link to comment
Boxcar
http://community.ratsun.net/topic/55368-620-4x4-conversion/ This might help ya. The lift question is best handled with custom springs and mounts. And tire size : I never exceed 35" on a rat conversion . But that's just me. I will fallow you're build. Nice rig congrats........ 1 Quote Link to comment
Boxcar
I used 3"x2" x . 250 rec tube to double the rear frame / stock 720 rear main spring with Toyota liefs added to get the desired ride hight and 3" over cross blocked shackles. This will net you about 7" over where you are now. <a href="http://s1109.photobucket.com/user/Boxcar2/media/BOXCAR-PC/datsun/0405131426_zps40c500e2.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/h423/Boxcar2/BOXCAR-PC/datsun/0405131426_zps40c500e2.jpg~original" border="0" alt=" photo 0405131426_zps40c500e2.jpg"/></a> Up front I run Toyota 1st gen. 2" lift rears / a shackle reverce system and 2" over cross blocked shackles. <a href="http://s1109.photobucket.com/user/Boxcar2/media/BOXCAR-PC/datsun/375985_4813842831534_1733889918_n_zps754ab00e.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/h423/Boxcar2/BOXCAR-PC/datsun/375985_4813842831534_1733889918_n_zps754ab00e.jpg~original" border="0" alt=" photo 375985_4813842831534_1733889918_n_zps754ab00e.jpg"/></a> You are gonna need a tall jack as this system has a bunch of droop. <a href="http://s1109.photobucket.com/user/Boxcar2/media/BOXCAR-PC/datsun/601795_4813819910961_1387989022_n_zps989d1500.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/h423/Boxcar2/BOXCAR-PC/datsun/601795_4813819910961_1387989022_n_zps989d1500.jpg~original" border="0" alt=" photo 601795_4813819910961_1387989022_n_zps989d1500.jpg"/></a> Will now clear 33's with out body mods. 35's will require trimming. <a href="http://s1109.photobucket.com/user/Boxcar2/media/BOXCAR-PC/datsun/405131464_zps10464f3e.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/h423/Boxcar2/BOXCAR-PC/datsun/405131464_zps10464f3e.jpg~original" border="0" alt=" photo 405131464_zps10464f3e.jpg"/></a> Hope this helps. 1 Quote Link to comment

OneFreakyMF
so your not sure if i can get a lift kit or something to lifet this? am i pretty much stuck at this heighth? I don't think you'll find a lift kit for a 620 anywhere but you are by no means stuck with where you are. In my mind, anything is possible. Hell, my 620 build involves a 4.3L, couple of transfer cases, hydraulic steering, ARBs, & 36" iroks! It just takes time, MONEY, ability to do the fab work, and the drive to see it through to the finish! That is the most important, FINISH! Far too often projects are started and never completed. That's how I picked up my 620. Take your time and research everything. Yes, you want it taller but bigger is not always better. Are you wanting to wheel this rig or turn it into a pavement princess? Lil of both? That's what I mean by long term goals. My opinion, if ya want to street drive it with a lil trail use then keep it where it is, take care of all the maintenance issues, and drive it! A princess... Then a full blown restore would be in order. A wheeler... Options are almost endless but most likely will not be streetable. 1 Quote Link to comment
tubbedbaggedstockfloored65
i have the drive and am not gunna give up on this and if i can ill keep it til im 70 years old and wearing diapers i have 31s on it but would at least like 36s on it that would be cool, and yea i dont have to ways to fab it anymore ince i got rid of all my stuff and dont know anyone in the area that would help me,, i would like to take the old lady out and sling some mud and not worry about gettin stuck or rubbin tires on fenders and bigger wider tires are just cooler lookin for a 4x4 stance, but since ive got the stock l20 i dot really have much hoorses under hoood to get me out of a few mud holes so i think wheelin is out of the question, ill probably drive it on street mostly but i do have a mile long muddy drive way and weather is shitty here and would like to have better traction gettin around ewspecially if it snows id like to make it the best wheeler i could but keep it street worthy! Boxcar
#1 clean up you're ignition, exhaust and carb. Get them working perfectly. #2 Dial in the suspension that you already have. #3 fix all of the issues that you have now with the truck. These are the least expensive things that will make a HUGE difference right now. Then Later, when you have the means to alter or upgrade the truck tackle the full on build. You're truck is already very cool. Very rare , and something to be proud of right now. Take you're time , do it right. It'll be worth the effort. And don't cut it unless you have to.. In order to run 36" tires on a dealer prep Datsun 4x4 you will need to do MAJOR alterations. The rig pictured in my build is not a dealer prep rig . I started the build with a NW ATV 521 Donner, but ended up using almost none of it. To far gone. So the build went the direction that you se. 60" 44's front and back with chrome molly shafts , lockers , long travel shocks ETC. ETC. ETC. All of this was done just to clear 33's with an un cut body. With long bump stops I could run 35's but that would require deeper gearing than I want to run. Tire greed is a common ailment. And , cool looking aint worth shit in the woods. Unless you are planning a rock crawler 35's are all you will ever need. Are you're cab mounts gone or you're bed mounts? If it's the bed mounts, I have a bunch of pre cut hat bars left over from a build that you may have . Just come and get them. Astoria isn't far from you , and a day in my shop will answer a years worth of questions..... PM me for my # 2 Quote Link to comment
tubbedbaggedstockfloored65
well i am not entirely to sure if its dealer or thrown togther by someone i am not entirely sure how to tell without taking anything apart? how can i tell what front and rear axle it is? its not that good of a job of the floor shifter all to the right so it leads me to beleive it was some one who owned it yea i just want dont wanna get stuck, i no its not about what your driving, its how you drive it i just still want to get the biggest tires i can, which im not sure i can put on there without effexting anything and not the ones in the bed and not the two up front but the 4 inside 2 on eaach side as you open door on floor Quote Link to comment
