He didn't say any of the other Japanese makes, just Nissan. I don't agree, but not from knowing for sure, just brand loyalty. Shortly after and certainly by the end of the decade Nissan was in a financial tailspin. The cancellation of the Z car in '96 sent up warnings. Nissan hasn't made or done anything since that was worth a damn. The GTR and the 'new' 350Z are to Nissan what the Corvette is to GM.... a technological super-car, something no one here will ever afford to own or drive. Now if Matt had said something against a Datsun, well we would have to step outside. The '90-'93 Nissans?.... meh, not so much. I didn't even say it was better than any Nissan, I said it was better than any Nissan sedan of the same vintage. I'm saying apples to apples, because of course you can't compare it to a 300zx or a hardbody, for example. I also didn't drag any other Japanese make into the equation. Excuse me for not bowing down to the Nissan alter. Like every company, they have their highs & lows. There are a lot of 4th gen Accords still on the road. Not so much Nissans from that era, aside from their trucks. The Accord, IMO, aged a lot better than the Maxima or Sentra. I know a lot of Maxima owners that would argue with you all day about that, but I can't as I'm not a sedan kind of guy normally. Toyota is number one right now, but not for long. VW is on a mission to take over that spot. I now own a 2015 Golf, and comparing the quality of it with the competition, they will be number one soon. A long while back my buddy bought his wife a Honda Odessy because "blah blah blah .... they're so reliable .... blah blah blah"..... he now says he'll never buy another Honda again. with that.. I'm astonished at the kind of horse power their engines are able to make with relative little effort. I remember when the Honda scene came on strong in the late 80's & the honduh stereotype driver today is no different from back then.... the only difference....... back then we would SMASH them with our Datsun's & Toyota's in a race, they were gutless turds, all show & no go with their ground effect kits & trunk wings. Even on the freeway they couldn't touch us....... now it seems like daily I get at least one revving his/her shitty sounding exhaust or inching at a light.... I laugh & shake my head. As for the Honda thing, I've owned many, and all of them good cars. Hell I still own an Acura now. It's the Honda tuner culture that I can not abide. Those little hipster bed wetters just rub me the wrong direction. Aside from Datsun, I couldn't give a flying fart about brand loyalty. Nissan may be the parent company, but in my view, once they dropped the Datsun name, so went my loyalty. VW is smart enough to know that the only way to get power with fuel economy is turbo, so all their engines are turbo now. Ford is going that way too, if you have noticed.
