Jesse C.
Nail head V8s. One SC but not the other????? He wanted to prove that a blower would not work all that great on a Nailhead Buick due to the valves being too small. He actually de-tuned the engine to make it run like crap and prove his point to another racer who wanted him to switch to the blowers. One engine was modified to run backwards so that the flywheels would mesh. Used a special cam to make it work . Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Fastest hydroplane in the world at over 184 MPH. Winner of the Harmsworth Cup three year running. Saw and touched this boat at the '59 CNE when on display. Powered by a Roll Royce Griffon engine of about 2,000 hp. 1 Quote Link to comment

heywier427
My dad developed cams and roller rockers for nailheads. An engine he built holds a 1/4 mile world record (for a 60 yr old hunk or iron) strapped to a full bodied gs. The intake valves were not the problem, it was the exhaust timing and small exit points. But thats why it makes a gaziilion foot pounds at 500rpms :) We want to twin turbo one in the next few years! Will be exciting to say the least. 425's take a god damn beating! ^ Pretty smart aiming the exhaust directly at the drives face!!! WTF... Quote Link to comment

goes2fast
Is that one of Tommy Ivo's cars? Yes, I believe that was his first multi engine car, before the 4 engine monster. Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
Only problem is you could not steer it. Once the front tires start to spin it's fucked. Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
Only problem is you could not steer it. Once the front tires start to spin it's fucked. Yeah, but 1/4 mile tracks are fairly straight, so... ^_^ Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Well just imagine how hard to steer on ice. And that's just the rear wheels trying to 'come around'. The smoke don't help either. There was a twin engine Hurst Hairy Oldsmobile too. 1 Quote Link to comment
goes2fast
Only problem is you could not steer it. Once the front tires start to spin it's fucked. Evidently it didn't matter much, it used to smoke all 4 for the entire 1/4 mile! Quote Link to comment
goes2fast
Maybe Tommy was a more skilled driver. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Rn5a0PgkEw https://youtu.be/WrprqWvk42U 2 Quote Link to comment
