VFR800
Forgetting all the sweetness Datsun/Nissan sent down under that we never got to sample Nissan/Datsun definitely was a very popular make in Australia from the 1st day they started having them here. Nissan did have production facilities here, the cars were not 100% imported. Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
No. All the manufactured parts were sent down there and the cars had the final pieces installed on your island. Cars were about 60-70% finished when they arrived. Nissan did not have manufacturing plants there. Just assembly. Made in Australia using globally sourced parts. Been a joke through Nissan for years. Been out of Nissan for a few years now. Not sure if the process is still the same. Nissan, globally, is very stingy with allowance of country of origin. Control costs easier keeping the business close to the hip. Quote Link to comment
VFR800
Nissan has been using local production for much of the internal components of their cars for some years now. AUS govt subsidised such so as to keep jobs going here. Toyota,Ford and Holden and Mistubishi have already wrapped up their operations here with Holden due to close all facilities by late 2017. Forgetting all the sweetness Datsun/Nissan sent down under that we never got to sample 125CSL already made the point about "imported" where he says sent down under. Australia is not going to worry if you don't come visit  Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
125 CSL just drive home my point that the o ly good looking cars down there are imported. Nothing to knock on performance. All the good tech is sent to you guys too...Without all the bull shit involved that America, Japan, or Europe/UK have to deal with. As for Nissan...Still assembled. Not fully manufactured. Here in the US and Japan, even Mexico, the car starts from scratch. Even Renault only lets half-built cars roll around down there. Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
Sweet. I've seen Ladas only a couple times. Pretty cool looking. Who knew the Russians could? Quote Link to comment
VFR800
the o ly good looking cars down there are imported. Well that's your opinion and you're entitled to it but that's all it is - an opinion not a fact. The parts that have been manufactured for Nissan's here have been locally sourced not imported (fact),local steel, local workers, local companies making the components. I never said they are fully manufactured here. Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
The parts that have been manufactured for Nissan's here have been locally sourced not imported (fact),local steel, local workers. local companies making the components. So...All the parts Nissan of N.America gets from Japan for Glolbal Market vehicles....Australia sources on their own? Do you guys have island specific Nissan's no one else received to make your statement, as you say...Fact? Still not seeing how what I said was untrue. Quote Link to comment
