Defroster Glass

So I have a line on a couple sedan rear defroster glass pieces...

 

What im curious about before I decide to pull the trigger is what do I need to make the glass function? I know there is a switch to turn it on and off, but curious if there is some sort of control assembly or will it be properly powered by just connecting it to power? I looked over the wiring diagrams that I had available, but I could not see anything hinting at defroster wiring.

 

Any ideas?

They use a relay. Simple.

I assumed as much, but unsure of what kind I should be picking up... There are varying relays out there and I want to make sure I can get this setup before I pickup the couple rear windshields I have available to me.

 

Would anyone have pictures of theirs installed?- maybe a wiring diagram from a '73 FSM.

You will need a defroster timer relay and follow the diagram below.

Not very many of the older cars used a timer.

 

I would go to pick-n-pull and for $2 get a genuine Nissan relay like this:

 

Nissan relays are more reliable than generic ones

 

25230-C9900 is one of the most common 1980s-1990s relays and has an extra pin but will still work, just do not connect pin A

True, but if you can add a timer it would be worth it I think. Of course it will work with a regular relay.

So if the price was right on the glass, I should snag them? Making them functional is easily accomplished.

I do wish my 1200 had a rear defroster, I hve been driving around this week freezing my ass of trying to keep the rear semi clear. Does not help having a trunk that leaks. I have been looking at something along these lines.

With any luck it might fit in the precut hole in the sheet metal for the rear shelf speaker.

theRe is a company that makes aftermarket defrosters for windows, complete kits, and just wiring kits... I have looked at this too long for my wagon

Yes, that is the full kit. Will require modification to work on a 510 wagon window.

Thanks. Ive seen similar products, but I was hoping to use stock components since I had access to them. I just wanted to make sure that I could get them to work before I spent the money on them. I may just go with an aftermarket unit.

I have a 1200 coupe rear window with the defogger .... been trying to sell it for years

Yes... but it has to fit on your window. If it does not, then you have to be really good with electronics.

I believe the sedan has a different rear glass. Surprised you haven't sold it by now.
