Son_of_a_Datsun_Guy
First autocross today with the new motor and brakes. Bogged down a corner in the first run and lost like 10 seconds on trying to get back into the course to avoid a DNF 1st: 71.9 s 2nd: 62.3 s 3rd: 63.2 s 4th: 60.1 s Did pretty well against the competition, beat a couple of other 510s, and ran really close to more modern stuff like BRZs and Focus STs. Best time of the day went to a really experienced guy in a Porche 914 that is wicked quick, somewhere around 49 seconds. Woops... 4 Quote Link to comment

housew
very nice. glad to hear the 510s can do well in autocross (mine in the third 510 ive ever seen due to living in the north east). I just got my first 510 (sedan 4 door with an sr20det) and didn't know if I was even going to try to autocross it. My normal autocross car is a 73 914 on hoosiers. This has NO BALLS at all, but it handles and is a blast to drive. I guess ill have to give the 510 a shot. awesome build BTW. really digging it. Makes me want a goon now too :) 1 Quote Link to comment

housew
yea, I got the stickies over the winter and I need to tune out some of the body roll, but its pretty amazing what a completely stock 90hp, 40 year old car can beat. Since my 510 is at least 3x as fast in a straight line, well balanced, and about the same size, it has potential to be pretty killer. IF I can keep the rear end behind me with all the power. 914 shot. %5BIMG%5Dhttp://i1360.photobucket.com/albums/r648/willhouse207/th_914_autocross_zpsd99e56d4.jpg Quote Link to comment

Son_of_a_Datsun_Guy
I'm going to try to do some new gasket stuff and mess with the cap, see if I can make the original cap work, haven't found anything else I like the look of. Quote Link to comment

Son_of_a_Datsun_Guy
Happy 5/10 Day!! Went to a cars and coffee type meet with a buddy. His rat-T Later in the day there was a larger cruise up Hwy 1 and on a couple twisty roads Ended here: Keeping pace with an S60 R volvo quite nicely on the twisties... with a passenger and balding tires (need some new ones soon). And some exciting news. Another car and family member has joined the Dockery Datsun Clan. This is my little brother's 69 2 door. I'll let him make his own thread eventually but it's got an SR in it that we're going to take out and replace with my old L16 (just to get the car up and running, it's a lot less work than getting the SR running). He's getting the car exactly when I got mine, a few months before his license and it's sitting in exactly the same place mine did until I got it runnning.... I might be a little excited to get this car going for him... 6 Quote Link to comment
mrbigtanker
Very nice and looks like he is polishing it already. Quote Link to comment
Son_of_a_Datsun_Guy
Sorry, the SR is spoken for, may be returning to the original owner. Quote Link to comment
Son_of_a_Datsun_Guy
I haven't been doing enough to the wagon. Summer is finally here and I'm hunkering down. I've decided that rather than take any drastic steps that would put the wagon down I'm going to leave most of the car as is and work on making it prettier. Interior first. d I took the back seat out. Because it was useless. And heavy. Now I'm doing this. The main face board warps a little when it gets really hot, but this is just the mock up. Going to make a large speaker panel out of 4 3/4 pine ribs and then cover the faces with 1/4in hardboard. 2 Quote Link to comment

Son_of_a_Datsun_Guy
Gone from mock up to real wood and test fitting: Braces to hold the ribs in place: Middle ribs installed: Quote Link to comment
Son_of_a_Datsun_Guy
Took these out. Yes, they're as bad an idea as they look. 16 year old me wasn't very good at making stuff that made a lot of sense... Put some carpet down underneath the box to give it a little sound deadening, I did get the faceplate on today, but forgot to take a picture, I'll just post when I'm done with the whole thing (minus carpet covering). twistedimages
but it's got an SR in it that we're going to take out and replace with my old L16 It's still early- I had to re-read this a couple of times! 1 Quote Link to comment
Son_of_a_Datsun_Guy
Finished my speaker box, may go back and redo the face plate since it's a little asymmetrical around the tunnel. Also needs to be covered, most likely with carpet. Iphone audio doesn't really do it justice, but it's pretty amazing how much a little resonating space will help bass noise. http://s1221.photobu...html?sort=3&o=0 Quote Link to comment

It's not as minty as it looks, it's got pinholes in the floor pan and some bubbles on the quarters and lower fenders (it also has a 70s dash in it, so we're working through returning it back to stock from the SR splice harness. We have a head start because the work that's been done to the car, both by Lynn and Brian (Abe Froman) is all solid). We aren't really planning on rushing through the car though since he doesn't have his license yet (he's 15). The car basically fell into our laps because we'd been storing it for a friend who basically gave it to us in trade for storage of another of her projects and some other things. Its going through a complete clean right now, I'll get him to make a Ratsun thread on it soon. He'll go through the same put-put process I did with an L16 and a 4 speed. His suspension's done so it really won't take much on the $ front to make that car really cool. Definitely a Ratsun kind of build. Quote Link to comment
Son_of_a_Datsun_Guy
So one of the bolt heads on my upper hood latch broke off on the way home from Bayline, luckily I didn't even notice until I popped the hood the next day so there was no catastrophic failure. Both bolts ended up breaking in the holes, and I screwed up the drilling and tapping the first time around, ended up drilling larger holes and going to a 8x1.25 bolt. I never really gave you guys a picture of the speaker box once it was covered sooo.... I need to vacuum in there and get all that crap out soon. Bababooey has inspired me with his homemade wooden center console.... so I've started to make my own, a little different since I don't have the same woodworking capabilities as he does and I'd like to add a tray a little further down the tunnel for cup holders and other stuff. Mock up complete. I also have big plans coming for the engine...... on the intake and exhaust side... more to come... 2 Quote Link to comment
Son_of_a_Datsun_Guy
My Longacre spoiler supports came in today. Trying a couple different placements Decided on the angled look Cleaning the bumper and anti-siezing the crap out of all the bolts so it comes off nicely next time. Look, a straight spook. Edit: Youtube sucks. 1 Quote Link to comment
