dont use your hands to check for ball joint play, not enough force...( thats how you would check your bearings ) .. jack the front wheels about 3 inches off the groung, put a pry bar under the tire and ,well, lift. look for slop and or play. if they are bad you will see some give , you can actually see if any other bushings are going bad this way too ...... also, if they are bad...... 68-69 ball joints are diff than 70-73 ( smaller thread on shaft )

I did check the ball joints and the look new. I didn't do the pry bar method, so maybe they are still failing. I'll recheck with the mentioned method and report back. Thanks for the tip.

I need tires basically yesterday. I a bit of highway sliding today because someone jumped out in front of me and it was raining. I'm gettin more and more nervous running my current tires.

Hey Tristin, bit late to the party here but I just caught up on the past few pages of your thread and noticed the discussion about my friends Escort and the white wall tyres, thought I'd chime in! Those aren't actually white-lettering tyres, they're just normal ones that he had whitewalls painted onto. What they do is jack the car up, get the wheel turning at speed using this little motorised box with a shaft sticking out which turns the wheel, then grind a small groove into the tyre, then use a special pen to paint in the whitewall.

Im going to try John... its got most of the things I want, but there are a few addition things I want to add. I know I keep going back and forth on color, but this picture has made up my mind 100%. Im going to keep rocking this mint color until the need for paint. Then I will repaint it the original OG green color. Then Doug will get his wish and I will probably shave off the trim... I dont know when paint is coming, but eventually it will be, but its probably my last mod as I love this color.

Well, quite a day. Had a great morning and then and then a not so great afternoon. On my phone, so when I get home I'll write more and post some oics.

My day started out awesome. The weather was decent so it was a fun scenic drive down to Shelton to pick up my freshly powdercoated rims from Jrock. I get to his buddies place and we chit-chat a bit while he plays airplanes with his buddy. The decide that one of the planes needs to be stuck in the power lines, but then later realize they want to keep playing... so now they have to get it down:

I scope out the wagon and blue 2dr... Talk a bit about the progress on both, check out all the work theyre putting into them, then load up my rims and head on back home:

I back through Shelton into Allyn where I decide its time for lunch. I stop at a local favorite called Big Bubbas Burgers and grab a bite to eat. I thought about eating at their outdoor sitting, but I thought that since it was such a nice day out that I want to eat waterfront. While Im waiting for my food, the owner proceeds to tell me how his first car was a 510 and that he loved it...

I get my food and cruise on down to the beachfront park and dock area. It was gorgeous so I rolled down all the windows, cracked the sunroof and just relaxed for a bit while I ate lunch. It was really refreshing. I ate all my food and decided it was time to head back home. I had some work to take care of so enough time was wasted sitting around in the car doing nothing. I make it about 15mins from the house and this happens:

This is why backspacing and offset are important. I figured if I was going to blow a tire, it was going to be from the stretch or the fender rubbing. As you can see, its the inside of the tire that blew. Once I got the rim off I could see that I was rubbing against my shock body. Looks like Im going to have to get rubber for the new rims quicker than I planned originally.

Thanks to Jrock for the awesome job on my rims and thats to Goonfan for the spare rim and tire (since I had neither).

Shoot Tristan we woulda gladly grabbed the truck and trailer and returned u to silver dale..... I think the arrows saw how good the new rims looked and got jealous and gave up the ghost due to sadness of prospect of spending the summer locked inthe garage.....who's that jackass in and red sweat shirt ......

Im debating whether or not I want to run centercaps on the rims. I was thinking of purchasing new valve stems, hardware, and centercaps... but havent fully decided yet.

Now I just have to do a little research on some tips/tricks for lip polishing so I can do it myself. Then the rims should be done.

Well, I bought new tires today. I didnt have enough money for 4 tires (I get paid on Wednesday) and the place I was getting tires would put a 185 on an 8in rim, so I got new tires for the fronts. Until I can get a set of tires for the rears, my fronts will be on the back. Not really my plan but, its better than running one 19in tall tires and one 24" tire borrowed from Goonfan. At least they are the same now... plus this gives me an opportunity to see what the color looks like on the car.

I love it.

I didnt even notice, but the girlfriend did... turns out the rim color is exactly the same as my Jun PNW-S sticker. Anyway, cant wait to get rubber for the other rims so that I can run all four new rims. Im picking up a full set of new lugnuts tomorrow as I havent received the replacements I order a few weeks ago. Im thinking green!

Ill get better pictures once I get all four rims mounted. It was practically dark by the time I got home and changed two tires.

Oh, and contrary to what I posted earlier, my tire was NOT rubbing on my shocks. I got underneath the car when I was changing my rear tires and the wheel is nowhere near it. Im guessing the rubber scuff marks are from when the tire blew and was shoved into my wheel well.
