DRIVEN
420sel is one of my favorites I've never seen one with a carb. Mechanical injection isn't all that bad. That looks just like the one in my driveway right now except with raw aluminum valve covers instead of black. I guess the mechanical injection is OK if you don't mind the look. I don't think they ever had carbs as an option but imagine a rack of Weber IDAs or maybe some crossed SUs like an old Rover. We're getting pretty far off topic but I'm enjoying it anyway. EricJB
Once you run 48IDA's you can never go back. Something about the intake being way louder than the exhaust.. Just nasty. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
DO IT! The 327 is a classic engine. The 510 is a classic small sedan. It's a match made in heavy mountain. It will handle better than any 1960's era musclecar. I'd prefer an aluminum GM V8, taken out to 5 liters ... but the 327 looks and sounds the goods. Hey they fit em into Datsun 240Z which are even smaller than the 510! Quote Link to comment
Skib
Hey they fit em into Datsun 240Z which are even smaller than the 510! dude an S30 engine bay is 2x + bigger than a 510 bay Quote Link to comment
Laecaon
Big heavy V8 makes me cringe. Why I have chosen the CA18DET for me, seems to be one of the lightest motors with a decent amount of punch. Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
Keep it Nissan. Carbs so none of that EFI wiring and shit. 4.4 liter. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fougyadQN3w It's all here... http://community.rat.../18011-y44-v-8/ . Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Yes, a Z engine bay is longer, but no wider. And a V8 is much shorter than the Z's straight six. Almost as short as the L16. Quote Link to comment
DRIVEN
It's no secret that Nissan has "borrowed" designs/technology from other manufacturers. What was the Y40 & Y44 inspired by? I see a cross between a Ford and a Buick. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Borrowed? Try licensed. It is Toyota that has been accused of borrowing as they went it alone, all the while Nissan licensed and partnered. I see a distributor at an angle like on the L16. And an exhaust manifold with an obvious design, straight down and out the back with exhaust ports that are not siamesed like Chevy chose to do. Valve covers looks like thier partner Austin, but with 3 bolts instead of 2. Quote Link to comment
DRIVEN
I see what you're saying. Here's my logic. Buick engine (see the dist, oil pump, water pump, thermostat?), Ford 289 manifold. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Ford Y block used on cars until early 60s and mid '60s trucks. I think Nissan bought up the tooling and began using them just like Jeep bought up the Buick oddfire V6. I checked the B&S and they are the same. Quote Link to comment
HRH
They ever make any aluminum Nissan V8s of old vintage, like the Y block? Sad to say, I've actually thought of a V8 in the 510, but it would have to be an all aluminum block to be worth it for weight. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Buick alloy V8 is 318 lbs. KA24DE is 346 lbs. So by that logic, KA24DE will turn a 510 from canyon carver into a pig. Go with the lighter, lower center-of-gravity V8 unless you are drag racing. Quote Link to comment
