The new pistons for the L20 should've been here yesterday, but it was raining blink.gif

I'm rebuilding the L20 and putting it back in. That way it doesn't become a project. Still thinking about what I'm gonna do with the messy engine compartment.

Better to fix the cause than manage the effects, right?

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

The piston "set" from RockAuto was not a "set" of pistons, but a piston with a "set" of rings and a pin.

My $21 super-deal just soured my mood. At least they had 3 more, and I was able to order them. Still $84 for a set of new Beck/Arnley pistons, pins, and rings isn't too bad.

Hate to do that to my wife, but I think it's for the best.

This morning after my twins started driving me crazy inside I took them outside and had the play around in the car (supervised!) while I brushed and scrubbed the engine bay.

After that I used some polishing compound on the engine bay. I treated the battery tray with JASCO Prep and Prime rust treatment. Here are the pics after everything is shiny:

I used some Prep and Prime on the stock exhaust manifold. Gives it a nice black finish. Before and after pics:

Been working on some small stuff while waiting for my piston rings. Painted mirrors semi-gloss black, repainted the rockers gloss black, stripped paint off chrome trim under doors, and installed the trim.

I don't like the rust, but I'm doing my best with dealing with it.

Been a while.

Here's the last 510 engine I rebuilt, an '84 VG30E done back in 2002.

Same engine stand and everything, here's some pics of the engine that I rebuilt in April and May. If you will recall, I had it bored .020" over and I installed new pistons and rings. Everything cleaned and painted. Runs like a top!

Well the car show was fun.

There were about 30 cars, mine was the only import. Too bad there was no import category! Lots of interest in the 510.

Yes, I'd like to be about 1" lower in the front. I think I'm gonna do the split cooler adjustable spring perches over Christmas break.

Gonna begin bodywork soon. I plan on chemically stripping the paint, grinding down the rust, doing body work, and shooting SPI epoxy primer. Starting at the rear and working my way forward.

The issue with the filler and rust can be seen here.

The filler used to blend in the new Nissan dogleg panel back in the '80s.
