620fever
Hey guys so I had to replace a head gasket on my L20b, the original gasket was incredibly hard to scrape off it was like cement on there, maybe this is normal, anyway I'm sure a little crud got in the head bolt holes and I'd like to clean them out, any ideas on the best/cheapest way to do this, I'd like to avoid buying a set of thread chasers but maybe I should. Thanks. Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
I think a little always gets in there. I myself wounldnt worry to much. SHOP VAC??????? Quote Link to comment
Z-train
Any crap in the hole will affect torque values.Get a tap-they don't cost that much.Chase the threads, clean wilth brake cleaner and blow them out. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Get an old head bolt and grind a groove down one or two sides. Rub a little grease unto the groove and tighten it in. The threaded part will push dirt and crap ahead of it into the groove and the grease will hold it when you remove it. I did this on my thermostat housing. You should still reach down and pick out anything stuck in the bottom, but this gets all the shit off the threads and keeps it out of the bottom of the hole. It lubes the threads too. . 1 Quote Link to comment

DanielC
If you work on Datsun engines, you need these three thread chasers. M 10-1.5 M 8-1.25 M 6-1.0 Quote Link to comment

Jester
A bottoming tap works best to get to the bottom of the hole. If you have your engine on a stand that rotates, spray the holes with some brake cleaner and roll it over and blow it with some compressed air. Mikes "Ratsun Tap" is pretty cool too. DanielC
"i'm assuming that covers a-series too? " I do not know. All my Datsuns have L-engines in them. Quote Link to comment

Jester
I would think those would be the ones used on A series also. Quote Link to comment
