metalmonkey47
That's awesome man, I love 1200's. You should stuff a long rod L18 in it and build a rev king! Quote Link to comment

You should stuff a long rod L18 in it and build a rev king! i thought about using one of my l20's but i dont wanna pull it out of my truck, and i havent ventured upon a l18 near me yet. im really liking the thought of a single cam turbo in there. metalmonkey47
I know of one that has a 4 speed attached FS. I think $200 was the price on it Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Build a rev-king L20B -- 45mm webers and a large duration cam! More power than an L18 built similarly and it doesn't need custom rods. But the KA will beat either. It's 20% larger AND has two intake valves per cylinder. Quote Link to comment
squatches
I know of one that has a 4 speed attached FS. I think $200 was the price on it a l18? or ca18? and im going to go see how much the guy wants for the ca out of a 200sx tomorrow. Quote Link to comment

ggzilla
CA18DE also has 4-valves per cylinder and makes more power than L18. Also makes more power than the Turbo single-cam. 200SX single-cam CA20 (84-88: 104 hp CA18ET (85-86): 116 hp Pulsar XE dual-cam CA16DE: (86-87): 113 hp CA18DE: (88-89): 125 hp Quote Link to comment
squatches
this engine is the single cam or ca18et, he doesn't have a transmission with it tho so ill have to track one down if i go that route. I would like to do the ca18det but i havent found one that was in my price range, which is cheap lol. i also dont want to have to cut the trans tunnel so i may just go with an a series again. ggzilla
CA18DE is more common than the CA18ET Turbo DE: 125 hp ET: 116 hp turbo Since the DE came 1988-1989 Nissan Pulsar XE, you can still find them in wrecking yards at least on west coast. The transmission is the hardest part to source. Quote Link to comment

ggzilla
I saw a couple of those in Oregon this past summer. Looks schmick. Quote Link to comment
squatches
pulled engine and trans out today, gonna be cleaning up the engine bay while its out. Also pulled out drivers seat which was only held in with three bolts and the front mount is a ghetto fab with angle iron. i will be redoing the mounts with some square tubing when i fix all the holes in the floor and the frame rail. found this under the carpet. i didn't get a pic of the 1 1/2 foot round hole under the panel. ggzilla
Got pics of the seat mount? Angle iron is a strong way to do it, if done properly. Or do you mean the seat riser on the floor was replaced with angle iron. Bad idea. Quote Link to comment
screamer510
I have a cheap L16 and am "local" and off all week. PM me if interested. Quote Link to comment

ggzilla
Why o why do people cut a structural unibody crossmember like the front floor riser??? When swapping L-series, a lot of guys use cut-n-weld, which I hear can be quick and easy. But you don't have to cut anything to swap in L-series into 1200 ... IF you use the right combination of parts. Use the 510 4-speed and stock 1200 auto driveshaft and front sump & oil pickup from 810 or 720. The only thing I'm not sure about is the tunnel, I know using the 1200 auto tunnel allows the largest Datsun transmissions. But the smaller 63 series I think will fit in the smaller 1200 manual tunnel but not sure if you have to do any "massaging" of the tunnel. Make custom engine brackets if you don't want to modify the crossmember -- many guys don't like that because it is more work. Quote Link to comment

I dont mind doing some custom work or fabrication i just dont want to cut the trans tunnel. Quote Link to comment
old-tin
you won't have to cut the tunnel or the x member with a l16 or l18 and short box. BUT you will have to cut the x member if you use an l20b it's just to tall Quote Link to comment
squatches
heres a few pics of the seat bracket. floorboards. some goodies i got today. 240 lower control arms. fuel rail with injectors and another set of tested injestors. 240sx maf and z32maf some sad news is the 1200 will be prob be retired for awhile because i dont want to alot of custom stuff because i dont have the cash for it. if i could find an a series around here i would put that in. so the 12 is gonna be sitting and im gonna try to fix my subies Quote Link to comment
