I thoroughly enjoyed my first JCCS. I drove down on Thursday night from San Francisco in my white 510 w/carbon hood, arrived to Newport Beach at approximately 4:30AM, hung out at a donut shop until my dad woke up around 7AM, and then we had breakfast. I napped through the afternoon, cooked up a monstrous chicken dinner, and was planning on going to the show with my car all bugged out from all the debris, garbage and insects that I picked up along the 5. However, while I was showering up before the show, my pops decided to wash the car and so it was sparkling by the time I was ready to roll out, which was 6:30AM on Saturday. Low and behold, it was raining and nasty coming up the 405, rocks and asphalt shit everywhere being kicked up by the cars ahead of me, and then an accident with a flipped around blazer (?) at the 17S exit to Long Beach. Ugh. Followed a clean and fat-tired 240Z through surface streets and made my way to the show, dirty, spotted but full of excitement.

Once parked, I wiped my car down, met up with Josh and his father and their beautiful 4dr Bluebird (rhd, orig) on 13's. Had the dubious honor of being parked next to Garage AutoHero's slammed and ratted 510 which stole the show, at least in our corner of the 510 cars, haha. Not even my teal steering wheel could peel people away from gawking, and truth to be told, if I could run a blow through turbo set up like that on my L20, I would! I've got a Carl's Speedshop Typhoon 54mm billet carb just sitting in the garage waiting for either a massive Harley motor . . . . or something similar to AutoHero's ride :)

It rained again. I said the hell with it and just walked around snapping photos and finding all the various weirdnesses and oddities I could. It was great. I plan to dominate the motorcycle competitions next year (didn't know there were even classes open this time around, or I'd have packed an old minibike in the back of my car and entered that as well). Overall, I was stoked on the whole experience. Parking was better inside than out, food vendor was gracious, cars were unbelievable, and I wasn't expecting anything more than to just show up and check everything out (my car isn't show worthy, just a clean daily driver).

Afterwards, I passed a green 510 on the 405 headed south, had some vietnamese coffee in Westminster, and got a hair up my nose that I'd continue down the 405 to Mexico . . . . and then flip a bitch and head to Canada. I arrived in Portland, OR on Sunday afternoon at approximately 3:15PM . . . . took a nap, and have been cruising around here the last few days. On Thursday, I'll power up to Seattle, continue up the 5 to Canada, and then turn around and return to San Francisco. It's been noisy along the freeway, but the visceral nature of the car means that everything comes together and adds up to all the fun it is to drive one of these.

Hope to see more of you out there next year. I don't have any photos from JCCS uploaded yet to flickr (bad internet connection where I'm staying currently), but as my avatar shows, mine's the 51ZERO and I know someone's got a link out there to a picture :)

Cheers!

Ya, its brown, what else do you need?

The only thigh I don't like about that car is the Chrome trim on the headlights buckets

The head light covers on that car are pretty hard to find and they go for pretty good money. I kinda like them. But not for everyone I guess.

I just wonder what's under the hood on that car.

Sorry, every Datsun is show worthy. Canby was the best car show/datsun experiences ever. First I was peeking through the glass of this immaculate 510, the owner walked up, opened the door and said "climb in, its just an old datsun"! Every car that made it there was worthy of being shown, rust, dents and scars were as welcome as shiny paint! Let the shows inspire you for ideas, drive and motivation for the passion of our datsun sickness, but if a show and the people make you and your ride feel inferior, eff em and come on up to Canby!!

As a sidenote I really want to experience jccs sometime, as I am just in complete awe of these photos!!
