The Carb Thread!

Recommended Posts

Im a carb whore! I Loave Carbs! The moare the betterer! Recently got a pair of Zenith "british made" downie 34s from my good friend "WangSling" and plan on runnin em on the Pumpkn... Tore em appart and found that one of em was siezed up and full of nastyness. Soaked it till it came apart and then had to get out the float, Moare Soakin! They came apart differently than I expected, I am runnin 2 weber ICT 34 downies and the hole top comes off them. On the Zenith, the bowl and main jet stuff comes off from under the side of the main body... Neato! Cant waiting to get these all cleaned up and installed on the Pumpkn. I am wondering about the driveability difference between these two carbs. The webers are Way Over Jetted, off a air cooled engine. And the Zeniths are off a Volvo boat, there is no accelerator pump!? But the Jetting should be closer to correct.....

Enjoy the Oics!

Yes, variable venturi (slide carbs) and SU type carbs may not have an accelerator pump, but they have something that is equivalent, they open the fuel passage up momentarily when the throttle is cracked.

So after lookin over these and tearin em apart smore (and removing sissy choke :P ) I found that these have no such accel valve. If they did, there would be no reason to also have a non funtioning pump...

And they seem to be "modular" looks like you could just adapt the bowl and valve into anything. Cause all the carb, cept the valve is independent in the bowl section. Would only need a top...

I love this shit. My first car was my dad's '64 Dodge slant six. I rebuilt a 318 two bbl, made an adapter plate and used a bicycle hand brake cable. Dave I always thought those webers were too big for your motor so I'm expecting these to run better..

Did I mention what a pain in the ass it was to sync dual SUs in -5 degree weather, not to mention trying to start the car then? I like my fuel injection. Click, vroom, go.
