did that come out of e.LA?

looks very familiar... headaches sound the same as well.

came from El Monte.. i suppose that's e. LAish.. i think before it was in el monte it was in cerritos or some city that started w/ a C.

pics since i've gotten the wagon..and done a little here and there..

tires, front bumper, roof rack, windshield, cleaned up the interior, new dashpad cover, cut shifter ~6" and got a shiftknob, Aluminum Radiator& elec. fan, elec. fuel pump, 2" lowering blocks, $9.50 Pepboys Mirror, temporary till i order a fender mirror.. rewired engine bay, cleaned up the Fkd up mess behind the dash w/ all the shitty rigged up, crossed over, spliced here and there wires..fk. all that time and still don't have my brake lights working.. (anyone know the colors of the two wires the brake switch plugs into?)

trust me, this picture makes the dash actually look decent for being green and white.. let me reassure you, it does NOT look like that in person.. it very much looks like someone used a rattle can for everything.. even the steering wheel itself.. which would be ok, if the ring was made of a hard material..but it's not.. feels a lil rubbery..

still deciding on my front end.. suggestions?

and FK i need find someone willing to go over the body work.. whoever did the bodywork previously was seriously UNtalented. or UNpaid. sidemarkers were closed up w/ bondo only, along w/ the vents on the rear hatch below the glass, and original roofrack holes.. motherfuckers ripped out one of the screws for the roofrack apparently.. cuz i was installing the roofrack i had got yesterday and there's a dime sized hole bondoed and painted over at the passenger front mounting point. cheap asses. now i have to fork out the dough (or trade work!) to weld/grind and smooth this bucket to decency. any local guys in SoCal wanna suggest a good spot? and by good i mean descent, because good costs an arm and a testicle.

ok that's enough byoochit for now.

I got the wire diagramst hrough work. So I'm set there.. Unfortunately, the factory diagram i have doesn't tell me what color the wires running to the brake switch are.. That and I seem to have a green/red and green/yellow wire that don't have a home..

Hi

I have a 72 wagon ,I just went to look at the wires on the brake likght switch , there are 2 black wires coming from the switch ........one goes to a green with a yellow tracer ( this wire comes from a loom with 2 wires ) and the other goes to a red single wire, I hope this helps you , also check your fuse panel there is a brake light and radio fuse.

good luck !!!!!!!

kind of stuck right now.. carb (Weber32/36) doesn't seem to be doing well.. my mixture screw is turned all the way in and it idles pretty decent, and WOT feels pretty good (for the first couple miles).. but cruising and easy to medium acceleration and it bogs/sputters.. i'm pretty sure i'm rich if my mixture screw is all the way in, so does this mean i re-jet? or re-build? i was pretty sure it was just a jetting issue, but i went to a carb shop i'm friends with and the guy's telling me to re-build.. hmm.. sounds like he's tryin to make a buck.. any suggestions? oh and those two screw things just above the intake manifold i kinda understand that the one closest to the head would be turned in more in comparison to the one that sits on the outside away from the head.. right? cuz fuel coming out closest to the head has less distance to travel vs. the one on the outside, which has to travel that much more inside the intake manifold.. yeah? haha.. someone tell me if i'm wrong but i think i got it.. jets?

btw.. anyone who is paying attention to this (lame for now) build thread, does anyone have a front valence they can let me have/buy/? whatever the meterial doesn't matter to me... but mine is FKD up.. and i am realizing how much more a car is to work on vs. motorcycles and scooters.. hahaha.. so body, weatherseals, windowseals, & front suspension would be next after i finish with my carb issue.. i'm slowly accepting the fact that to get my front end done the way i want it's a minimum of 900 clams.. jesus.. donations? hahahaha

edit: forgot to metion, if i turn out the mixture screw more than 1/8-1/4 turn, RPM drops and engine wants/will die..

check your timing with a timing light, and also your idle screw (not air mixture screw) might be turned down to far so when you adjust the air/fuel screw it starts dieing... worth a shot, and free to check. get some brake cleaner, and squirt it around in various places... check for vacuum leaks, probably not the cause, tho.

Fast720- thanks alot. Brake lights? Check!

Fixer- you got pm

H2theizzo- vacuum is perfect, timing is at 10degrees, and idle screw is the only thing keeping it running.. Got a weber rebuild kit so I'm going to do that as soon as I get some time away from the lady and work.. (next week?) any other suggestions? I figure I'll tackle the carb first then if I still have a problem, maybe I have a problem w my distributor? I don't think so tho, my timing has been dead on since I set it at 10.. That was my sweet spot.. By chance anyone know the original jet sizes were for a weber 32/36 when u buy it for an L20b setup?

Thanks for all the help/advice guys.. Great community :)

Welcome to project wagon ownership! Your wiring finds sound like what I ran into when sorting my wagon- lots of surprises, so you're not alone at this. It's a good feeling to get everything worked out, keep at it.

I have a valance you can have, but honestly it's probably not much better than what you have on there.

If you want to get rid of that green spray paint on the dash parts, try yellow can Easy-Off oven cleaner. It doesn't attack most plastics, but try it in a hidden area to see if it works out. If all systems go, then spray your dash parts (assuming you've removed them prior to spraying) and scrub off the paint using a good brush and hose. Then repsray using quality interior paint, like SEM (available at autobody paint supply stores) to get them black again.

Go check out dimequarterly.com. There is a sub section in the lower left hand column. Go to the 'engine' section. A menu will pop up, and click the 'Weber Tuning Guide'. It's a few pages long, but good info. In fact, that entire site is a wealth of information that you might want to check out.

We all run in to this "what someone else thought was a good idea".

Body work and paint suggestions: Start with 2 gallons of aircraft stripper.

Start on the roof and work your way down. Pull any plastic parts off. Get a milk jug and a 3 inch throw away brush, and rubber gloves (good ones).

Cut a hole in the top of the milk jug (so you can use it like a bucket with a handle) pour in stripper. Paint stripper on all day and remove with moms cooking spatial. Watch bondo and paint peel of in wrinkled goodness.

Quick update: rebuilt the carb.. Ended up not being my problem, but for 30bucks I didnt mind putting the time into rebuilding.. It was a quick on and off..

Turns out my cap and wasn't firing #2 and #3 so replaced that and the rotor.. Good to go..

Oh, wait, yeah, forgot to mention my timing troubles.. Kept setting it and i would have to reset it out of no where.. Timing chain- too much play.. Fml..

Everytime I fix one thing, something else pops up.. I'm waiting for this period/cycle to end.. So depending on what's wrong w my motor.. Perhaps a swap would be in order? Lol.. $$$$$$ damn... I just wanna be on the road with a mean n nasty stance.. Too much to ask for? The wagon seems to think so..

Just get er done man. Way easier doing it with the motor out of the car, rather than in. If you can pull it and do it, do.

Chain/guides/tensioner is cake.. I did in while the motor was in the truck on my naps z24, kind of a bitch, but managed...

Doing it tomorrow at work.. We will see what's up.. If something major is wrong (which shouldn't be) I'm going sr.. Haha.. I hope so.. But I don't hope so at the same time. It would be awesome but money spending isn't.. Lol.. Gracias para the encouragement

body/paint at the end of the month! but i gotta get my flared fenders, valence and rear flares before then.. anyone wanna donate? lol

ugh.. and the front suspension..

i love projects but have recently developed this sense of being torn between spending money and saving it.. guess that's a good thing because i LOVED uncontrolled spending and throwing my money into the hands of everyone but my own..
