ehime
So the poor worn out L18 in my 73' Wagon has seen better days, parts are getting harder and harder to find, and aftermarket support is drying up for these. I have been kicking around the idea for an engine swap. The only 610 swap I've read about yet in ANY 610 was a KA series engine, but I couldn't find any documentation on it. I was thinking about putting something a touch newer in, and had a few ideas: Nissan: S20 from a Skyline (Hard to find, hard to fix, never been done TMK) RB25 or RB26 (Fairly common, lots of aftermarket support, expensive) KA24DE (Easy to find, relatively cheap, wide range of support) Subaru: EJ Series (Awesome engine, lots of suport, very easy to find, my mechanic specializes in them) Any other ideas, or opinions on what I listed? Something newer would be nice since I could use cruise control, not worry so much about maintenance, etc. Issues are their NOT period correct. I dunno, what does forum think about my shenanigans? -jd Quote Link to comment
Skib
S20 from a Skyline (Hard to find, hard to fix, never been done TMK) lol good luck finding that RB25 or RB26 (Fairly common, lots of aftermarket support, expensive) LOTS of fab work will be needed to fit an RB. not worth it. KA24DE (Easy to find, relatively cheap, wide range of support) this a realistic and documented option. other realistic Nissan swaps (assuming you dont want to just put a new L in it) would be KA24e SR20det CA18det FJ20et VG30e dont even bother with the subi stuff Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Easiest engine swap is an L20B. Forget about them??? :P Quote Link to comment

bonvo
ka is also a direct descendant of the l series there really similar Quote Link to comment
zerow
Easiest engine swap is an L20B. Forget about them??? :P The only real change you have to make on a '73 610 is the hood, if you plan to run the stock air cleaner. Running SUs or a weber, then disregard... Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Go with the S20 -- engine alone is $15,000 I was thinking about putting something a touch newer Well the S20 is not newer. I'd do a KA24DE swap, it is powerful, newer and inexpensive. Quote Link to comment
ehime
Actually, sourcing an S20 isn't as hard as forum thinks if you've been to Japan, money is a necessity though, they aren't cheap. Not the 15G that GGzilla thinks, but not cheap. As for a L6, how much space is actually under the hood, I saw the L6's above but those are all in S30Z cars, not 510/610's. I was personally leaning towards a KA or a refreshed L18/L20B (L20B is also a I4 correct, just wanted to make sure?). My car is in no way going to be a race ready, or a drag/track/drift car, but I would like a cruiser with at least a little get up and go for freeway traffic and such. Quote Link to comment

L6's (L24,L26, L20A) are to big but there pretty much an L4 (L16, L18, L20B) with 2 extra cyl I was just using them as an example for nice L motors I was personally leaning towards a KA or a refreshed L18/L20B(L20B is also a I4 correct, just wanted to make sure?). thats the direction you should stick with. KA is a nice swap but a built L18/L20 will still be fun, and its direct bolt in. My car is in no way going to be a raceready, or a drag/track/drift car, but I would like a cruiser with at least a little get up and go for freeway traffic and such. even my built L16 does that  build a good L18/L20 and itl be plenty of power for that Quote Link to comment

HRH
Go L, don't look back! Easy, fits right in, tons of aftermarket support. Your local NAPA can get all sorts of Japanese parts to rebuild a nice L20B. Quote Link to comment
ehime
Good to know that NAPA still has parts for a L20, I was quite unaware! Quote Link to comment
bonvo
most drivetrain parts for these are still available i haven't had any issues with a parts store not being able to get anything i need Quote Link to comment
