Jennifer
So I start my car just earlier to warm it up, I hear this clinking noise so I open the hood to check it. theres this bolt out and its tapping on my belt thing. I pushed it back in and pulled it out and pushed it back in. Is the bolt supposed to easily come out like that? Thanks for any help!! Quote Link to comment
jefe de jefes
Better get that tightened up. Tight like a tiger. Quote Link to comment
datsunaholic
No, that's supposed to be tightened down. In addition to being the adjusting arm pivot bolt, it's also a timing cover retaining bolt. Hopefully it isn't broken off in the block. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
That's one of the timing cover bolts, hopefully it's just loose. Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
get a wrench and see if it tightens up. this happens sometimes on those alternator bolts Quote Link to comment
Jennifer
I just got to school and I opened my hood, the bolt seems to have moved just a slight bit from when I left the house and pushed it in. I don't have tools with me : /. so I'll handle when i get home, so wrench it? Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
You drive a 510. You should be good at using wrenches 12mm till its snug. snug only Quote Link to comment

sinner720st
roger that skib, seems like you can take a whole datsun apart with those four wrench sizes... EDIT: it also looks like your alternator bracket is cracked on the bottom, where the adjusting groove starts... i would definately raplce or weld that, if the top one brakes you might just be screwed... Rob W.
Don't be sad its an easy fix now. Later on it could have been trouble, that was a good catch. Quote Link to comment
dimedriver
I have had trouble with that bolt coming loose. You should pull it out and put some blue loc-tite on it. Also check your alternator tensioning arm. Mine had a crack in it when I took it off last. -Dime Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
I've seen that happen before. Quote Link to comment

ggzilla
You can buy it at the local auto parts store. I personally wouldn't use it, just tighten the bolt. Don't overtighten and break it though. Quote Link to comment

banzai510(hainz)
you cant pull that bolt out anyways to locktitie it. The bolt is too long and will hit the pully. Unless you pull the radiator out and the fan pulley then you can get the threads PS thats a clean motor.whoever did it did a good job not a oily motor Quote Link to comment

DanielC
I too agree with just putting the bolt back in, and tightening it snugly. Check it in a week or two, and see if it is still tight. Then in a month. If the engine only shakes a little, when first started, and then runs smooth, that is not a major issue. Old engines in Datsuns do not get the exact fuel to air they need when first started to run good. Modern engines with computers do. Quote Link to comment

banzai510(hainz)
Felpro makes a nice valve cover gasket(O rileys will carry Felpro). Most times it needs to be about hand tite but evenly. Quote Link to comment
