didjeriDatsun
I'd want to look closer if I were actually going to buy it, but if it were listed at 8K I'd be pretty excited about it, and I bet others would be too. You've probably got at least that much into it. Projects usually sell at a loss.... Quote Link to comment

He says he used it as a daily for 4 months with no problem. Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
The closer it is to stock the better it is for a DD. Performance modifications, real (engine, suspension) or imagined (rollbar/no back seat, bang you head getting in, no glove box or gauges, no trunk because of fuel cell, loud exhaust) soon become thin. This is a nice car... using for a DD will ruin it quickly. This should be used weekends and after work. I got a sixty-nine Chevy with a 396 Fuelie heads and a Hurst on the floor She's waiting tonight down in the parking lot Outside the Seven-Eleven store..........................Racing In The Streets, by B. The thing is I know very little about cars so I wouldn't know what to look for. *Edit* Idk if this helps any or if this is what you referred to on the fabricating skills.. but the owner said "it was down to bare metal when I got it, I have my own shop and we did all the body work in house.... It took 6 months to get it perfect....no bondo....all metal....then 2 months of paint work....." The closer it is to stock the better it is for a DD. Springsten Can you dumb it down for me? I only got the part where the closer it is to stock the better it is for a DD. So even with just 5k on the engine and tranny, it still wouldn't be a good DD? Why would it ruin it quickly? :[ Quote Link to comment

So even with just 5k on the engine and tranny, it still wouldn't be a good DD? Why would it ruin it quickly? :[ I think what he means is, A DD is is used for many things, like going from point A to B, picking up groceries, driving around with friends. A rollbar makes you duck on your way in. More performance usually means more rattles, more noise. Your trunk is now gone to a fuel cell, so you cant really store much in the car. You loose a back seat, you now have a 2 seater. If you are watching your gauges all the time, such as your coolant temp, that is no fun. As the car becomes more and more fun to take on a drive, it becomes less and less fun to drive. Way to finicky for any sort of stop and go traffic. A 400hp car is not fun in the city, the car is just begging you to push the gas pedal more, but you cant/there is no reason. Basically as the car becomes less and less stable, and as it looses more a more features, it becomes less and less an ideal DD. Quote Link to comment

Now I have some other questions: Is the fuel cell the battery? (I mentioned I knew little to nothing about cars right?), I didn't quite get your paradox of "as the car becomes mroe and more fun to take on a drive, it becomes less and less fun to drive". The owner said it was close to 300 hp... but I guess that's still way more hp then I need... Do you recommend me look elsewhere? & If he got down to 7k should I just buy it anyway because of the walmart low price? Quote Link to comment
VintageRice
............I think that if your looking at buying THIS much of a custom car, you have to know alot more ABOUT cars than whether the fuel cell is a battery or not.......<br> Quote Link to comment

sssr20det510
Id offer 5k, for 8k I think u could get somthing a little nicer and nissan powered lol Quote Link to comment
MicroMachinery
Well... I've seen some insanely nice, powerful 510's for around/under 8k. I personally wouldn't give him 4k for this thing.. it was someone's mistress, now they're kicking her to the curb. GM drivetrain.. no dash.. 'tis no Datsun. At least it wouldn't be a daily driver... obviously. It would take quite a bit to undo what's been done, unless that's what you're after; a GM/Datsun hybrid. Looks like it was a well done conversion, I'll give you that.. but that doesn't make it any less blasphemous in my eyes. Quote Link to comment
Icehouse
Like the above dudes stated, it's tough to price a car when we only get a few pics. The strut top hats look to be stock, how much else of the suspension is stock? Bigger brakes are a must with any added power. I don't believe any HP numbers without a dyno chart unless they are stock numbers. Does he have a list of upgrades? What engine is it? I don't know shit about American engines. Well except Ford makes the distributors easy to reach :) Price all depends on what you are looking for IMO. I wouldn't want that dime. That's just me though. Quote Link to comment

Fuel cell = gas tank. Ah I see, thank you for being patient with my noobness. I would like to hear your opinion on whether or not I should buy this car then... This would be my only car, although I have several family members cars at my disposal in case something were to happen. TBH I thought if I were to get it for 7k I could resell it when I'm done having fun with it and at least brake even. I was also fantasizing that after Transformers 3 came out, the car would go up in value... x.x; so plz let me hear it, deal or no deal? fuel cell = gas tank? WTF is a gas tank doing in the trunk?! :o Id offer 5k I do not know enough about cars to recognize if you are being sarcastic or not. Do you really think this car is only worth 5k? He yelled at me over an e-mail a few weeks ago when I offered him 8k x.x So even if I were able to get it for 7k it would still be too much? Quote Link to comment
Fivedime650
offer him a 1500 bucks no higher lol Quote Link to comment

sssr20det510
That car is going to be hard to sell, most datsun guys don't want a gm motor in there datsun, if this were a sr20det powered car it would sell a lot faster. I think u would have a hard time getting 5k out of this car when you decide to sell it. Quote Link to comment

I guarantee you, that if you buy this car and when you're done "having fun with it", try to resell it for the same price, you'll be sorely disappointed. I think this guy is probably sorely disappointed at the huge hit he's gonna have to take to get rid of it. Don't be a sucker; it's not worth that much. Not worth half that much if you're looking for a nice, legit Datsun 510. Keep looking; they're out there. Quote Link to comment

I honestly thought I struck gold finding this thing... and to think I was going to drive from Anaheim to Sacramento (7 hour drive) to pick this thing up... ahh I'm just disappointed I've been looking for a 510 after a friend bought his years ago and fell in love with the breed </3 So would any of you even recommend a guy like me buying a 510 who knows nothing of cars? Maybe it would be best.. it seems I don't belong in these forums... :[ Quote Link to comment

Laecaon
Find one with a L20b or a KA swap. You will be fine and happy. Both are reliable engines. Quote Link to comment
