another canuck on Ratsun with a dime build. i figured i this would be the best place to get information and keep track of my build.

so my project is a 1972 4d dime and it is in pretty good condition for the price i paid.

the story behind the car is the previous owner was a nissan employee and had this dime in his garage for 13 yrs so for the age of the car there isnt that much rust

anyways

I want to keep this thread as pic heavy as possible so here you go. sorry for the Quality of the pics they were taken at night with my camera phone

the front and rear bumpers are straight and no rust on them.

with the car came some unique parts from what I was told.

I think panasport wheels they have the wheel decal but it is stamped formula one on the rim

SNC00404.jpg

wiper cowls not sure if this is rare or not

SNC00396.jpg

and from what I was reading my clock in the dash that still works.

to date I have changed the low beam lights and the passenger seat belt (was sticking)

I will also be doing a write-up on the headlight conversion as soon as it arrives.

hope you all enjoyed

I have the same ones on my 710. I found them on another scrapped 710 and was told they are stock. After 36 years and many owners, usually the stock ones are replaced by Crappy Tire plastic, bling bling, double or triple wipers blades. They look like shit and are cheap crap. The rubber was rotted but instead of $10 a side for the snap on ones I just bought $3 worth of refill and cut them to fit. Hang onto those!!

What are your long term plans for it?? ........... brake upgrades?? ........ lower suspension?? .... ... go fast parts??

Nice car... .... .. can we get some pics of the engine bay? .......... is it an automatic?

thanks and its a beauty, starts on a dime to haha (no pun intended)

unfortunatly i cannot take pics of the engine bay as my hood hinge sheered off im waiting to get one. hopefully tomorrow i can replace it and if so there will be alot more pics

Yes its an automatic.

my Short term plans are

This weekend:

install headlight conversion i bought some E30 ellipsiod headlights and going to buy some hids and figure out how to wire them in

replace the hood hinge, and front hood trim

long term plans

techno tuner complete suspension with tension rods not sure if i want to weld the struts or not and hopefully figuring out what to do in the rear. i want discs so we will see what happens and what i can find

go fast parts i have a complete SR20DET motor in transit from Calgary as we speak with an HKS turbo setup. im a welder/ fabricator by trade so im sure i can figure out the crossmember and i would like to shave the engine bay before it goes into paint.

Nov 15 the datsun goes into the bodyshop for a complete overhaul undercoating removing what little rust there was and getting a fresh paint.

at the same time the Panasports are getting a full overhaul with polished lip and matte black spokes and centers

for the interior i was going to try the Pare compasite website.

510freak- yeah i have been in contact with him since i bought the car. suppose to meet up tomorrow and buy a bunch of goodies (trim, valence, hood hinge,)

510freak,datzenmike- for sure i like the way they look and so far its helped keep the car down and more aerodynamic through the cloverleafs hahaha

Looks good needs to be lowered about 3 inches but looks like a good start

Thanks yeah I think so to but its all in due time. Trying not to rush anything sticking to the plan.

Did an oil change tonight and finally put in the new hood hinge picked up for free also a rear end and cross member to begin fabricating for the SR swap will take tonnes of photos when Ibegin that, also got some 280zx i believe struts and breaks for the front and rear plus a front and rear sway bar. The neat thing is the sway bars came with instructions and it looks super old. hopefully picking them up tomorrow

Finally got the camera up and running, figured i should get some shots.

As per request the engine bay

Anyone know if this side trim is original to the dime? if not its coming off tomorrow, bc the passenger side is off. I'm thinking someone put these on to protect it agianst other parking lot idots as I refer to them

Here are some shots of the interior.

The dash is original and everything you see is how I bought it. even the door sills were in pretty good condition.

I have that crappy bumper strip on both my 710s. I think it's a "seventy's thing" and I hate it. Probably installed at the dealership before selling and price added on. Customer has little choice in it unless he wants to rip off something he paid for. Just like the old "undercoating" scam.

I guess I can update this thread been awhile, its been pretty much sitting outside in the snow Because I am currently installing a roll cage into a friends drift car.

I ended up trading my welding services for a SR20DET block and tranny I love sweet deals

The SR20 motor has about 90k on it and I tore it down to the bare block, sent it in to the local machine shop. They honed and decked the block and hot tanked it, resurfaced the head

and had them polish and balance the crank shaft looks brand new!

i also ordered

ACL Bearings

APR head Studs, main studs

OEM Piston ring kit

Greddy oil pan and head gasket

Cometic bottem end gasket kit

and many many more parts hopefully coming

here are some pics of the crank and block all cleaned up.
