ricky
hi i have cut coils in the rear of my 510 and i want to replace them with the stiffest springs i can find to help get rid of all body roll. i herd d-50 coils are really good. but i want to know whats the stiffest i can go. with out the springs lifting my car Quote Link to comment
lil89ram50
cut them farther :) sorry i dont have any helpful info besides that Quote Link to comment
Laecaon
Replace the struts with Bars. No suspension!!! is that hard enough? Quote Link to comment
hang_510
the stiffest springs i can find  so what have you "found" so far? Quote Link to comment
ricky
I'm just lookn for some springs and not sure what spring rate would be best. Like 150 or 200 Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
For a datsun 510? Coilovers are the stiffest. Get those small diameter strings 275 lbs some guys fit. The Datsun racers in the 80s fitted: * Slalom: 218 lbs to the front and 778 lb springs in the rear. * Rally: 147 lb front, 521 lbs/in rear I recommend lower pound springs, and the biggest antisway bar you can find with new poly bushings. That will remove body roll and still leave a smooth ride. Quote Link to comment
ricky
Yea for 510. Thanks for info I found a set of rear bolt in coilovers but there out of my price range right now. So I'm lookn for just some coils untill then. Quote Link to comment
Creepy Cruiser
Like ggzilla said, "bigger better sway bars", (not stiffer springs), will work the best. Too stiff of springs, and it will bounce like a ping pong ball in the turns, lol, and causing it to trade ends very easily. Good used sway bars are not very expensive, especialy if you find someone who just did a KA swap, because their old big front bar won't fit anymore. Quote Link to comment
HRH
www.daymotorsports.com Circle track catalogs are your friend for cheap, decent suspension. Quote Link to comment
Duke
Well if you want stiff I've got some 1200# springs in the stock location. Not "bouncy" at all, in fact the best rear setup that I have had in the car. Quote Link to comment
hang_510
300# on the rear CO, no R sway bar (~1200# spring in the stock location) HUGE front bar. :D rides like it on rails in the cyns and still OK for a 100mi ride on socal freeways Quote Link to comment
DISLEXICDIME
350's in the front 250's in the rear (coilovers) 350 is a little to stif in the front I would go with dukes suggestion Quote Link to comment
ricky
So I found some nice new sway bars for a good price. But I still need to put some new coils in back I have a set of stock one but since there so old I expect them to be realy soft. Duke who makes the 1200# coils you have and where did you get them?. Duke
The rear springs in my car started at a single 600# 16" long 3" ID Eibach coilover spring. I then cut it in half to make two 1200# springs. Quote Link to comment
ricky
Oh ok.. My rear wheels tilt in at the top due to how low my car is. Are your wheels straight with that set up Quote Link to comment
PurePontiacKid
I have my own little questions, what shocks are you guys running for these mega stiff rear springs? Is there a reason you guys use these mega stiff rear springs? I thought I was slightly crazy for wanting 650-700lb springs all around, now I'm thinkin I should go stiffer in the rear since my 280ZX is bigger and basically has the same suspension setup... ricky
I like the car not to have any float or body roll. Where I can feel every little bump but where it dosnt bounce like hang 510 said feel like the car is on rails Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
too stiff on the street is bad. Fly around a corner and the man hole cover you hit will lift the car and spin around. you want cheap stiff. get those rubber inserts they put inbetween the coil. put ON a stiff FRONT sway bar. 510 corner better on the street w/o a rear bar. On race track then maybe add a sway bar as the roads are more flat. Pointiac kid is right. Stiff prings need a shock to handle it. Quote Link to comment
ricky
Yea I'm planning on a putting a really good shock all the way around maybe ill just throw my stock coils ina and save for the bolt in rear ajustable coilovers Quote Link to comment
PurePontiacKid
I was asking what shocks you guys run, not asking sarcasticly, I want something stupid stiff for my rear so I don't squat as much (or at all preferably) haha Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Rubber-Coil-Spring-Spacer,689.html wont sqwat with these! or get T3 coil over 300# Quote Link to comment
DISLEXICDIME
I have qa1's with 250 pound springs set on 2 and I have no squat Quote Link to comment

What may sound like a really stiff spring is actually not that stiff. Because of the spring location on a 510, the wheel rate with a 1200# spring is actually only 300#. The spring rates that you are proposing running are crazy stiff. How much suspension travel does you car have anyway? Quote Link to comment
hang_510
I have qa1's ...I have no squat X2 w/the 210#??? and way too soft shocks(GR2), i was seeing full compression coming out of corners  Quote Link to comment
