Can you get a 510 down to 1500lbs?

I was just thinking what it would take to get a 510 to 1500lbs with motor and everything. Start out with a 2 dr, completely gut it with only race essentials, then do a complete carbon fiber body and lightweight aluminum wheels, and what would be the lightest engine we could throw in there that would make 300hp?

The answer is no. If you want a lightweight race car, start with a B13 Sentra coupe, and make it tube frame and RWD with L series. It will be lighter than a comparably equipped 510. Ask any guy who does road racing.

ALTHOUGH: If you took the 510 down to body only, made a mold, and then made it out of carbon fiber, yes, you could get it to 1500 pounds, maybe less.

Anything removed would be negated by:

A... the roll bar... if for nothing but to add rigidity to the car for all the 'stuff ' removed to save weight in the first place.

B.. the new 300hp engine. Stock L16 is around 255lb... do the math. What does 300hp weigh anyway????

Maybe a tube frame and integral roll bar with 'plastic' body bolted on to it. Somewhat like a Funny Car. Plastic windshield only no glass. Motorcycle battery.

1900# is a more realistic goal. 1500# 510 won't happen not for Datsun owner money.

My race car comes in at 1400#+/- but it's the toyota answer to the 1200 datsun and has 58hp

if you want a light car start with a light car nuff said
