ImInked
Well I guess I should start my build thread now that I got some pics to throw up. I have a '71 521 truck that I bought from a guy on the board. Plans are to strip all the paint off, bag and body drop and engine and trans swap. So far I'm thinkin' an LZ22 engine with a 5 speed. As far as the paint goes, everytime I got some primer and paint on it, I kept liking it without paint, so I think thats the trucks way of saying "I want to run around with no clothes on". So, I didn't argue with her. Anyway he's some pics for ya. Heres what I started with got some new shoes for her started getting the rust off getting everything removed and taking paint off it's amazing what you find when you take it down after more work Quote Link to comment
808DA6
Damn. That's straight. Awesome canvas. -Brian Quote Link to comment
BACKWOODS DAVE
that is a nice rust free truck from what I see in the pictures. I love how it sits, what can you say about the suspension set up you running right now. Is it just cranked down torsion bars and blocks on mono leafs? Looks good I like it. Quote Link to comment
ImInked
Thank you. I was surprised that i didnt really find any rust either. There was just some tiny pinholes of rust but very minor. I have a few pics of how I fixed them with JB weld. As for the suspension, I re-indexed the torsion bars and i have 3" blocks in the rear with the main leaf and the overload spring left. All of the bumpstops have been removed. Quote Link to comment
ImInked
Thanx 808, the whole truck is really straight except for the driver side fender and the valance. I got a new valance from sdsurf. Also my hood is cracking in half so i need a new one of those too Quote Link to comment

ImInked
looking good... how did the valance turn out? It turned out great! its bare as well and looks awesome. as soon as i finish up the front end, i'll get it mounted up. Thanx again for it! Quote Link to comment
bonvo
i like it man the bare idea is cool the only problem i can see is the body pannels have to be perfect any imperfection will show due to having nothing on it and you cant bondo over it then you will not be all bare a tough project indeed man i wish you luck with it man Quote Link to comment
Guest jaimesix
Nice truck. Is it a long bed??? I did not know these trucks were sold with long beds. It looks like though. Cool!!!! Jaime._________________________________________________ Quote Link to comment
ImInked
No, it's a short bed. I think the angle I took the pic is a little weird. I started taking more paint off the back of the cab and found a little more bondo that was covering 3 little holes. Not sure what they were from or for but I found them. Quote Link to comment
ImInked
its amazing what you find when you take the paint off. i found about a half inch of bondo on the rocker panel after all was said and done, it was as bad as i thought it was going to be. Quote Link to comment
ImInked
today i got the doors all done and partially assembled. i hung the passenger door to see how its gonna look i still gotta finish the door jamb and then on to the back of the cab. Quote Link to comment

ImInked
got the front parts painted and stripped the rest of the paint off the bed. tal-strip is my new best friend. that stuff eats paint like crazy. i got the whole back half done in a day! Quote Link to comment
Madness
I wish I could do this to my truck. Your truck really looks good, are you going to WD-40 bathe it every couple of weeks? Quote Link to comment
ImInked
thank you. actually its garaged all the time so it wont see the rain. i was thinking either WD-40 or just steel wool or my disc's i've been using to strip the paint. i like your truck build too. very cool! Quote Link to comment
cookiemonster131
use WD-40 or another aersol oil, the humidity in the air or people touching the truck will make it rust. put your hand on it flat and if you skin is oily or sweaty in a few days you will see a rusty hand print. give it a good WD-40 bath now and then and when you see it starting to rust again steel wool it and spray some WD in that spot. there is also a special clear coat now, i am not sure who makes it, that is specifically made for bare metal. standard paint clear coat doesnt work very well. i know from experience Quote Link to comment
ImInked
thanx cookie, i'll look into that. i think wd-40 might be the way to go. Quote Link to comment
