  1. ... and here's a $50 wagon in TN... datson wagon - $50 (clarksville) http://clarksville.craigslist.org/cto/2918931721.html so many Datsun owners can't spell "Datsun!"
  2. searchtempest.com is a great way to search all of the craigslists in a certain area... I found these near you (there's even a nearby 710!): 75 datsun 710 (nicholasville) http://lexington.craigslist.org/cto/2949786950.html datsun 510 - $1300 (clarksville) http://clarksville.craigslist.org/cto/2920524983.html 83 datsun - $1000 (louisville) http://louisville.craigslist.org/cto/2931319523.html 72 datsun 1200 - $1500 (loganville) http://atlanta.craigslist.org/atl/cto/2970219516.html
  3. I thought about it a little bit more, and I think this is how it was plugged in: plain black wire: through firewall and to coil, with resistors spliced into the wire from one of your old posts: "The 720s, S110 and ZX also use a 2.2K ohn resistor in line between the coil neg and the tach." wire with female flat spade connector: (it was yellow or orange or red, I think) plugged into grounding male spade connector riveted to the cluster circuitboard black w/white stripe wire loop: there is a black and white striped wire with a snap-together connection in the harness near the main plug socket that connects to the cluster. Unplug this connection and plug the black w/white stripe wires into the matching connectors. -I think that is it! (but those are just the wires I remember.)
  4. I can't remember if you have the 1-wire tach, or the one that works as part of the coil circuit. ...I think that you might have the 1-wire one, but I'm not sure since I sent it out so long ago, and the 710 is in Syracuse so I can't peek under the dash and check! The one wire tach is the one that has an extra little electronic box on the back that connects to the gauge cluster at one of the speedometer screws. One of the tachs worked by hooking up to the coil with a long wire with several resistors all wired in parallel. The other one worked with two wires going to the coil, so that if the tach became disconnected, the car would stop running. Sorry I can't be more precise - it's been a few months since I studied up on tach wiring diagrams!
  5. That is a SERIOUS pair of carpet hammers! I'm curious if a carpet shop would be able to sew up the edges - or maybe they would charge a lot for the work? The texture of the stuff you found looks pretty close to the original material. Where did you find it?

    blank.

That thing is clean... Those giant bumpers look new! Happiness is finding a Grandpa 710.
  7. Yeah.. those kick panels have a consistency somewhere between thin cardboard and old carpet padding. They do seem to be strong enough to hold a pair of speakers in place though!

    610s unite!!!!!!

By the time I was done driving, I'd traveled almost 4,000 miles (about 6,400km) - but I didn't go in a totally straight line. It would have been 3,000 miles if I took the shortest route possible, but the way I went let me visit some friends and eat some great fried chicken. There are some pictures over here: http://community.ratsun.net/topic/31440-so-i-found-the-710-of-my-dreams-time-for-a-cross-country-trip/

    610s unite!!!!!!

I picked up my 710 in California and drove it back to New York - it's nice to see another cross-country Datsun trip meet with success! (Plus, your trip was cross-continent. Even better!) Did it give you any trouble along the way? I somehow once wound up with a bicycle that was made in Geelong... an Australian friend said that that town is known for making good pies.
  10. It's supposed to reflect less light into the driver's eyes, like when the sunlight gets reflected off of shiny paint or chrome. Bonvo, the car looks way better! Those paint guns have a ton of adjustments that are tricky at first, but once you figure them out the results are so much better than a aerosol can.
  11. You could use a sanding sponge if you find it in a very fine grit - just be careful when you're sanding an edge - they will sand through MUCH faster than a flat surface. When you're sanding, be sure to wet sand (it keeps the dust down, and keeps the sanding sponge/block/paper from clogging with dust.) keep some water in a bucket to dip your sanding block into whenever the sanding gunk starts getting sticky. The water acts as a lubricant when sanding. Also, use a rag to wipe the surface every so often to check on your progress - you'll be able to see the rough spots since they'll be shiny and unsanded, and the parts that have been sanded smooth will have a uniform, slightly dull look.
  12. I can imagine it perfectly in my head. ...no, wait! I can't! Post some pictures!
  13. Flat black hood is okay, especially since the 610 already looks like a musclecar - it might look nice with flat black around the taillights too. (plus flat black hides dents much better than gloss black!) Are you going to be putting the original '73 front end back on the car? What color did you decide to use?
  14. Today was already half-price easter candy day. Are you saying that tomorrow will be EVEN BETTER?
  15. That 200SX has my favorite Datsun interior (awesome Citroen-inspired dash, amazingly weird headrests on the front seats) - and maybe the 4cyl tach could be adapted to another Datsun?
  16. 300?... is 500 still their spending limit on non safety/tire purchases? I went to the race in Detroit when my friend's team entered a fake DMC Back to the Future car and it was lots of fun, with plenty of hurried emergency repairs. (they made a santa's sled, goodyear blimp, and Rambo truck in other years.)
  17. hubcaps aaaaand trim rings! jackpot!
  18. I went through few more tries, but I couldn't get the color to match - I tried with a different 710 picture too. I think the problem is that there is so much contrast in that Challenger picture - the green on the hood looks so bright and light compared to the way that the green appears much darker on the lower half of the body. The 710 pictures that I could find either wound up looking too bright (If I changed the color to match the hood) or too dark (If I changed the color to match the body side.) I'll look through my folder of Datsun pictures again to see if I can find a close match of a 710 with a solid-colored paint with similar highlights, but first it's time to do my taxes!!
  19. Double F-10! DOUBLE F-10!! http://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst/cto/2930639590.html Rare, the only one ever made. Datsun F10 with two front ends, drives either direction. 661-857-1518
  20. Were you inspired by that lime green 610 goon that just showed up on Ratsun? Here's my best quick photoshop of a quick Sassy Grass 710 As far as greens go, I really like Datsun's "Leaf Green." It's a great 1970's green - kinda on the yellowish end of the spectrum, but not an avocado green.
  21. They actually look kinda cool with the raised sections polished - definitely a 70's look, but I think they match up with the car really well.
  22. Welcome! I remember seeing that one on craigslist several months back, but it didn't have the stickers on the dash at the time. What are the wheels that are on the car now? They look kinda British.
  23. Will

    Project Pistachio

Looking much better with the chrome details! It looks like it used to be silver - are you going to change the color, or keep it pistachio?
  24. Does Dallas count as the East Coast? 700 for a Wild fiberglass-flared "B210ZX" kit http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/cto/2906475556.html
