  1. I have a 120Y badge from a Finnish junkyard that I could loan you for the project. It is the size of one of the big "Datsun B210GX" badges that were on the side of the hatchbacks.
  2. I believe it was just purchased on ebay. ...I remember because I was the second-highest bidder. (no worries though- I just found a second badge for my car on yahoo Japan auctions.)
  3. Will this one get a winch too? Looks really great for something put together with a vice - I thought that you had a tube bender to match up the four pieces so well. I like the way it looks from the front view. with the top and bottom both the same length. Maybe cutting the ends at an angle would only work if the bumper wrapped more around the corners of the car?
  4. I like it, but it might look a little better if the top bar was shorter than the bottom, or the ends were cut at an angle to follow the angle of the fender line? It's a tricky situation, since the 710 has so many lines to contend with!!
  5. Are you still going to use this bracket? I've been trying to track one down for a while.

Maybe - is the part number printed on them? I've had luck on a few obscure trim bits for my 710, like the badges and window trim. Just do a search for "Nissan part number" on google, and a few shops will pop up that sell NOS parts, you just need the part number to look them up. If you can't find the part number, I'll look it up for you when I get home in a week or two.
  7. Was there a problem with the flywheel on your car? I had the same problem with bashed threads on my first car - a DeSoto... I didn't know at the time that you needed a puller to get the brake drums off! Your method with a die set looks a lot easier than what I did - lots of time with a needle file, and then using a broken castle nut as a budget die.

    tranny questions

I have a 710 that used to be an automatic - the ZX 5-speed matches up pretty well - the driveshaft didn't need to be changed, and the shifter hole only needed to be enlarged a tiny bit.
  9. I've heard a lot of people on this site say they wanted a P-40 Warhawk-style 510, like the car at the top of the page - but this car might make sense with the riveted-in patch panels since it has so many bizarre rust holes. Congrats on keeping this one on the road!!
  10. Have you checked here? http://datsun510.com/manuals/index.html One of the manuals on that page might cover the J-series engine.
  11. Ah, I see... I do have some time to get parts together, so hopefully someone on here will have some spares kicking around. Pistons L18------------------- 38.1mm / 4.36cc dish / 85mm bore L20B------------------38.1mm / 11.36cc dish / 85mm bore L28 (early)---------- 38.1mm /10.90cc dish in 280Z, early ZX.('75-'80)/ 86mm bore L28 (late)------------ 38.1mm /0.0cc Flatop in '81-'83 ZX / 86mm bore
  12. Thanks for the tip! My concern is the dishing amount too - I'll be using an SSS head which needed to be surfaced, so the combustion chamber is already small. Right now it is on an L16 block with flat-top pistons, and there is quite a bit of pinging. I did some calculations and it seems like the L18 pistons will have the right amount of dish.

    heh. white stuff.
  14. Rock Auto has 3 of the pistons left, for about 75 dollars each. I haven't honed and bored yet - I was waiting for some pistons so that the machine could match the new pistons to the block.
  15. I'll need to rebuild my 'ol L18, and the piston walls will need some cleaning-up. Does anyone have some larger-than-standard diameter pistons and rings for sale?

...so bumpers could come in handy, but I'd vote to ditch the side mouldings!

Welcome, welcome, new 710. The front fenders on my car were repainted too, due to some old damage - I think the 710 fenders are especially vulnerable because they are angled so far forward at the top, so they collect dings even if the cars are still wearing their bumpers.
  18. I love wheels that look like they were taken off of an old Hot-Wheels car and shot with a grow-ray!
  19. After a little bit of waxing and polishing they'll be able to spot that car from outer space. I'm really curious to see how this project turns out. Is the bumper sticker on the back a relic from the 70's?
  20. That's the same mirror as on my 710 - I think Datsun used the same style mirror on most of their cars until the late 70's
  21. Kermit on the outside, Leopard on the inside. Very nice. There was a 610 wagon for sale around here a while back in the same color - it's so bright it doesn't even look stock!
  22. It's a Datsun! Everythin' is ultra-rare! They are very nice wheels though. Datsun was into mixing and matching parts between the different models in the 70's, so they might have appeared on other cars too. ...but they sure do look nice on the above car. ...or possibly the bamboo-colored 710 elsewhere in this thread. (and I just noticed that the 610-U brochure also shows the overhead console thing I was looking for a while back. That car got all the goodies.)
  23. ...I KNEW I'd seen these somewhere before. if not 710, they were at least a factory option for the sharknose 610-U.

    Hidden thread

Ah - here's that thread about making a fiberglass rear bumper - I stumbled upon it while looking for old 710 stuff: http://community.ratsun.net/topic/25059-hectors-710-wagon/
  25. Ha! I just found it too - a search for "250 710 bumpers" leads back here.
