hmm cracked dash pad i think is the most common accessory 521's came with. haha. how bad is it? all cracked up or just a few cracks? there is a seller on ebay that sells dash covers but you cant look it up by typing 521. it might be under 520 under additional buy it now items. i know it's on there somewhere. i just went down to the fabric store and bought some fleece or something and glued it on. it's the easiest dash to recover because of the flat edges. i've done mine twice. i'd show you a pic but the manage attachments link is missing. i've tried the vinyl repair and tried black silicon and they both work like shit. are you sure the tank is rusty on the inside? if in doubt pop the little 6"x10" door on the floor of the bed with a flat tip screw driver. remove the fuel sending unit and look in there with a flashlight. i think most tanks are rust free but if yours is rusty call all your local yards. if you find a 521 in a yard most likely the fuel tank will be with it. before you start wrenching it pop off the little door and make sure it's not rusty before you buy it. try to scrape off any dirt or mud before removing the sending unit. this will make the retaining ring come out easier. you'll need a hammer and flat tip blunt screw driver to remove the retaining ring. bang on all 3 sides rotating on the ring as it will shift 1/3 of a inch side to side. other than that it's just one filler tube. one breather tube and 4 bolts. 2 on each long end of the tank. of coarse for temporary you could use a red gas can that you keep you gas into put into your lawn mower. strap or bungie it down and run a fuel hose to it from the fuel pump. i wouldn't drive around like that but just for testing.

nice score! the speaker is hard to come by so hang on to it or sell it to me:) what are your plans for it. chop & drop or stay original? most chevy 6 lugs will fit. dont get"em too wide though or it will be harder to turn. the bottle jacks are rare too. i assume you have the bar and tool in your tool bag. sounds like you got most of the goodies without trying to hunt them down. how about a closer interior pic? other nice little things to get are the locking glove box lock, chrome interior pull handles, locking fuel door. even the cig lighter is hard to come by. i got one in mine even though i don't smoke. the antenna that takes a key is super hard to find also. one sold on ebay a couple weeks ago for $200+. one of the best upgrades to do is put some door jam dome light switches in. it makes a bigger difference than most people would think. the 620 door dome switches will work. it takes a quick soilder connection at the dome light itself. or if you buy a new dome light on ebay the door wire is already on it just waiting to be hooked up. original tailgate chains are fun to have also. they tend to jump off the truck though. do you have the rear bumper'etes? the ac is rare to come by. if nobody has a glove box for you i may be able to dig my spare out of my storage. what city do you live in?

dont know what the dealer charges but the locksmith down the street from me charges about 25-30 to rekey a door lock and put a new face cap on it, to match my ignition switch. or they can rekey your ignition switch to match your door locks. next on my list is to have my glove box lock rekeyed. the imports were smart about this having 1 key for everything. my jetta has 1 key for the doors,ignition,trunk,glove box,fuel cap. the older american cars had a different key for each lock it seemed.

is there a difference between the blinker and emergency "niles" flasher cans? one has parallel wire connections and the is 45 degrees. originally which was for which?

ppeters914 i have a 521 parts harness you could have. the fuse box wires and volt reg wires have been rearranged to the point that the system didn't charge. i was just saving it for the plugs and such. let me know if you want it. i think i have a dash and engine compartment.

i have a 1977 620 and my dash wiring harness is melted to shit. it doesn't need to be perfect just better than mine. there's nothing down at the parkland/tacoma pull-a-part at the moment and i don't want to wait.

i've got an ant farm. unfortunately they're infested in a car i'm getting. it's been sitting for about 3 years. perfect conditions for them to breed. of coarse the 50 billion pine needles didn't help. they are the little dinky small little basterds. from the trunk all the way to the engine. dont know what was worse the ants or the smell of burning toxic rat shit smoking off the engine. i may have to bomb the car!!

that sucks! i run original radio's and hook up the good stuff in the glove box or under the seat. the package tray works good too, i made a little curtain for one of my trucks for the package tray.out of site out of mind. hell i'm suprised my truck is outside everyday i wake up!!

hmm thats tough. i'm all about keepin it original and especially the options. but it does look cleaner/smoother without them. i dont think i would like them on my 521 even if it was a option. i guess i would leave them off but keep them stored.

bluetruck, dan here good to see you signed up. if your pigtail wiring is original you may be able to have someone unravel what has been done and use a test light to put it all back together the right way. although as the other posters have mentioned it easier to just replace the whole pigtails that have the original sockets on the end with used replacements from pull-a-part. i will be going out to pull-a-part soon and will let you know what they have. calling them and asking about there inventory isn't always if ever accurate. of coarse any yard would work but pull-a-part has the best prices.:) good luck.

i'd like a black sabbath 8-track just for fun. yeah i was thinking home audio, but auto works too. i got a late 60's early 70's becker europa car radio for free that i sold on ebay for $100. those original 521 speakers are getting hard to come by. if you have one i'll buy it.

ford type umbrella seals? positive seal? all the ones i've seen look the same. are the umbrella style listed at the parts store or are they dealer or what? i have a few and they seem cheap but i dont know which style they are. i want to use the good ones that's why i'm asking.

its even got an original radiator cap which are hard to find and not cheap. new one on epay is 40 or 50 bones. maybe 30 i forget. someone should have drained some original batteries when they were new. i think an original battery would be cool. one of those original parts you never get to see like a oil,air,fuel filter,plugs,wires ect. real time capsul stuff. with any luck it has the original fuel cap. or even the jack with good paint on it.

i've only seen a couple as nice or nicer. that red light switch knob is like new red. all the ones i've seen have been faded. picking it apart only shows that it is unrestored. thats the way i like them. the nicer ones have all been restored. as far as i can tell over the last few years of paying attention these only bring in 4-6 grand. i cant wait for the day a minty original reaches 10 grand. if i were rich and not white trash i'd buy it and keep it out of the elements. i just cringe thinking what the new owner is going to do to it. i wonder what percentage of 521's are in this condition? 5% maybe? i think that seat was recovered. it's missing a side reflector. no reserve!!! if thats really only 47k on the od it's a real find. survivor indeed. has anyone even ever seen a non cracked dash that was original. hot damn look at those tailgate chains with the sleeves. chrome is awsome. no bumperetts. temp guage is running hot in one pic. killer floor mat but i always thought they looked way better under the trans tunnel housing cover. is that side mirror after market? if i won the lotto i'd get stupid and bid 10 grand. then put it in a time capsul. i'll cry if it doesn't reach 4 grand. turn signal switch looks moved back a bit. i better stop i feel like i'm doing a report on it. i wonder how many watchers and hits this thing will get?

they also still make new cassette tapes, but they are hella hard to find and spendy too. geez how many makes and models came out with cassette decks? i still want a hitchi cassette deck for my 521. i currently have a fm converter in it. remember those?

tubes now thats old. i wish i had some tube stuff. i'm thinking basically stuff before 1985. i recently gave a low power sherwood stereo anaw to my daughters friend with some rat shack mc-1? speakers. soon i'm going to list my marantz 2240 (garage stereo) on the bay. it needs work you have to turn it up all the way to get the left channel to pop on. been playing it like that for a couple years and i have better stuff that needs fixing. everyone who has a garage should have a vintage beater to listen to in it. i love music and everone is crazy about all the new compressed formats! i'll stay with my lp's and cd's. would you believe rock @ roll records are still made. the u.s stopped making them for a few years i think but are still making them now to this day. they are about 3 times the price of a cd though. so i guess you have to really want them to shell out. only a few bands i'd that with. i know you younger guys are going "whats an lp" haha. very funny. if no buyers then i will still want the bench. i dont exactly know what's wrong with it as far as the engine goes. it's a 1977. that engine out in graham from craigslist would be perfect to drop right in. if i had a car dolly i'd do that. actually for that price i hope it doesnt sell. it's over on the east side of tacoma right now and you wouldnt believe the dozen different tweekers that offered me $100 for it. for that price i'd sit on it for a lifetime. i've only owned it for a couple monthes so i dont know much history. atleast i got it to stop back firing and the brakes to work.

i'm curious if any datsun owners have vintage stereo receivers or speakers. tell me or show me what ya got or like. i own 2 sansui g-8000 receivers and almost 30 pairs of speakers.i try to keep it around 20 pairs mostly cheap stuff but its still fun. sansui,jbl,marantz,technics,pioneer ect. if i could fit some house speakers in my 521 i'd be set. lets hear it.
