  2. My goon is too low. :( I cant go any higher!! I think I have to go with ZX shocks instead of MR-2's.

Unless you're trying to corner without rubbing 195-55-15's.

And sustain good suspension geometry... and setup for autocross/backroads..

  3. @kneesamo, That was one of the most useful things I have read. Reinforced and gave a lot clearer explanation to what I had already known. Time to tune-out all that understeer in my goon! hah.
  4. They are on my goon at the moment, sorry you're too late.
  5. I use Valvoline VR-1 10w30 with K&N filters... $62/12qt ... fill with 4.5L works to like $25/oil and $12 filter per 3000 mile changes... Not bad imo.
  6. Stop granny shifting!! VW's are fast, and weigh less than 510's sometimes! He probably had a nice suspension setup. Seriously, what type of tire are those 175's? I went from 175 street compound to "high performance summer" 195 tires and it made a huge difference in handling and braking. Those ones you have do not sound as bad as the ones I was running. As mike said those KA's are heavier, need stiffer spring rate in front.. most tuned front engine cars have softer rate in the back. I'm no expert but it makes sense to me to tune the rate depending on the F/R weight distribution. The more negative camber the less the tires like to grip, try raising it up a bit and it will probably handle better. For the IRS 510's there are some weld-on camber brackets to get camber out of the rear while being low. Would be worth it for the handling.
  7. Only mechanics I know locally are for general maintenance and don't do carburetors. Closest guy I know is Troy Ermish, and he is in Tracy now. I can only think its some timing/ignition related problem if spitting out the carb...
  8. Techno toy tuning makes a strut bar for the 510..$120. http://technotoytuning.com/productdetail.php?p=386
  9. Those are shortened 510 struts with MR-2 rear BZ3099 tokico illumina shocks. They go LOWWW, the height in my pictures are as high as they will go. Rears are NOS tokico, I'm going to get some KYB AGX 743019 to upgrade. Check out this thread, some useful info. http://community.rat...ar-shock-guide/
  10. @alex datsun, handles worlds better aswell! It finally looks how I wanted it to. @spitznoz, A good story is always fun! I still send pics to the previous owner.. he misses his goon. Also, I wear his girlfriends(now his wife) old sunglasses which I found in the glovebox. Thanks to Brian (AKA Hurley) who sold me the Konig rims and tires. Also, check out the time difference in my posts, you get a real idea of how long it took for me to figure this out. Things really picked up when I got a garage. I could not find the first picture I ever took of the car... Its nowhere to be found, but I did find the second picture I ever took! This was after we moved the white 2dr, and backed the goon into the street waiting for the tow truck. I still don't know who ended up with the 71 2dr.
  11. I'm having a goon time. 15x7 +0 195-55-15..
  12. Last pics sucked cause they where in the garage, so I did this.
  13. I was asking because hondas are lifted from the front frame rail under the radiator, and in the rear by the tow hook.
  14. Is it possible to re-jet those bike carbs? I know the similar Mikuni designs are similar performance as SU's.
  15. Took the 510 out for a spin before work with the new rims/tires... has at least 2x grip and the tires are not even broken in! handles like its on rails.

  16. My turn... DAS FITMENT Datsun Model: 1972 510 wagon Wheel Brand/Model: Konig Rewind Wheel Offset: Front/Rear: +0 Wheel size: Front/Rear: 15x7 Tire Size: Front/Rear: 195-55-15 Hanook Front end strut mods: Shortened 510 struts Tokico BZ3099 shocks (MR-2 rears) coilovers with 200lb spring. T3 camber plates set at 3 notches.(very, very negative camber) Rolled front fenders. Troy Ermish TC rods and RCA's Rear end suspention mods: flipped 4th leaf, all else stock Rubbing/ride issues comments: Rubs like crazy in the front, OK in straight line but in corners, worse in harder corners and heavy braking. Rears only scrape over big bumps, need to roll rear fenders.
  17. ^Thanks! I cannot stop keeping it up man! Something found its way into my goon... And I brought them home. I originally put all 4 wheels in the back of it, I went down the road a single freeway exit at 60mph and the diff was slapping over every pebble. Rode a lot nicer with them distributed better. Had a short chat with a guy at the gas station aswell, he asked if it was an 80's model, I said 72 and he was like wow how do you keep it running. *snipped cause shitty pics..
  18. I've got an offtopic question, what is the proper way to jack up a car if you've got the crossmember down this low? Also, if you unbolt the lower portion of your fenders you may be able to turn the wheels easier...
  19. Bleed the brakes. My stock calipers did something similar when I first started filling them up. Also get a 280z master, NOT 280ZX. They are much better for rear drum brakes because the 81 master cylander is designed for rear disc brakes which I've heard can 'overpower' rear drums.
  20. Reminds me of the manhacks from half life 2. I hope that nobody ever creates one of these horrid things, or I will have to purchase a crowbar.
  21. That is not my car. My car has 3" ground clearance, and its also an orange goon.
  22. ^Words of wisdom. Mine MR-2 BZ3099's, 200lb springs, in the front has about 3" ground clearance and I would not go lower, I can make it over speed bumps and never have a problem with bottoming out, yet I'm tucking 175/70/13's. A few people have gone really low. If you really don't care about speed, and just want to cruise everywhere under the speed limit in a badass 510... its possible, but takes a lot of work and a lot of shit breaks. Check out this guys build. http://community.rat...ge__hl__slammed Also you ever wonder how those road turtles get removed from the road? Changing lanes.
  23. Its complicated. But next time I show up I'll have new konig rims and dropped suspension.
  24. On another thought, maybe one of these months I'll finally make it back to the meet...
