Nice... if only they were a 16"...
-
They actually do look pretty good... If that's what you're into, go for it. At least you can get ahold of the wheels you want... nobody can find the ones I want...
-
Some of the newer cars use the same copper paint for the rear defrost as an antenna... I'm not sure if the "length" matters, but you could always just paint a thin strip all the way around the rear window. It'd be out of the way, and it should still work.
-
I've always liked fender-mounted mirrors, but I'm scared of getting a pair just because they look like they'd be hard to see into... you'd get a better view of what was around you, and it would eliminate a lot of your blind spots, but I don't think you'd be able to see much detail at all...

Is this for a 510? Mine are going on a 521, and I think the stock size is 195/75R14, so I figured I'd be pretty close... I may have to go with the 15x8's though, just because so far nobody can come up with smoothies in a 16x8 in the 6 bolt pattern... BTW, Freak, what size tires are those in the pics?

Keep it! How much is storage? Maybe you could stick it in one of those Self-Storage garages. Is there any chance you'd get enough money to start putting it together slowly? It is a really nice truck... I've never seen one...
-
I kinda like the general idea of the tow truck, but it all seems poorly done. They didn't even paint the air cleaner! I didn't get a look at the red one, but it looks ok... the 620's nice though. I remember someone around here was trying to sell a 720 dually that needed some work, and there's a 620 camper in my area... not for sale though.

First car was a '69 Mercedes-Benz 230... I never got to drive it though, it had too many issues. Ended up fiddling with it for about a year and eventually just gave it away. It was a cool looking car though... My second car (first car I actually bought and drove) was an '84 Honda Civic GL (Grand Luxury?). It was a little grey sedan that I paid $500 and drove the hell out of... almost. It was a three-speed semi-auto that wouldn't go faster than 145 km/h (downhill, with a tailwind), but it would do 80 km/h in first gear... I remember tearing up the side of a mountain in first gear, doing about 75, pushing 8,000 rpm. I took it everywhere... even offroading. It got hit by a truck one day while it was parked next to my work... insurance company wrote it off. I still miss it.

I've been fired, but luckily it was from a job I hate... Sorry to hear that though... Hope the union figures something out for you. Have you considered applying to a different district?

Datsunfreak: Thanks for the pic of the 510... There doesn't really seem to be much stretch at all, if any. You wouldn't happen to have another pic of the wheels/tires, would you? Bleach: I'm going with the same thing as you, except I'm going with a 55 series instead. I think it's closer to the stock size, and I took a look at a couple on their own in a shop and the sidewall looks pretty good. I'm still looking for a shop that'll track down some smoothies for me though... when I find those I'll do a test fit. 1lo620: I wanted either a Rabbit hatch or pickup a while back, but finding a decent Caddy around here is near impossible. Actually... I've only ever seen one in the city, and I don't think the guy will be selling it anytime soon. Pretty nice trucks though...
-
Sorry to hear... but, like said above, it's just a truck. You'll likely get another eventually. Maybe even a 521...
-
Shane, what do you mean by a "retainer"? I'm slowly looking around for a new set of rims, but I don't want to miss something...
-
Five, which pads are you referring to? The "sill" that runs along the width of the cab, right under the rear window? I'm putting shoulder belts in my truck but I haven't figured it all out yet...
-
Will, are you taking off that bar on top of the bumper? Want to ship it to me? =D I wouldn't mind having an overrider bar...
-
Holic, I didn't know that they used the same transmission... I always thought the two were different. Willey... if you look on the side of the block you'll be able to figure it out... I think there's a number stamped on the passenger's side of the head, right under the head and close to the firewall. It should have "16" or "L16" stamped on it.
-
Wow... awesome... I'm always amazed at how good the 521's look, even just with a new paint job and some nice rims. I think Datsun really did well with the body style...
-
As far as I've seen, nobody makes aftermarket parts for the 521... I think all the body modifications are custom made. I'd suggest just making your own... the door panels should be pretty easy, but the hood would be a pain in the ass to make yourself, and pricey to get custom made...
-
Which engine do you have? If it's the L-16 you should be able to swap the shifter bits over from the 510, but if it's the J-13 then you're pretty much stuck as they had a different transmission. I'm not sure what year the J-13 was made until, so yours is probably the L-Series, but you might want to check to be sure.
-
I think the short answer is... No. As far as I know, you need a 521 specific rad, although IIRC one from a 510 will fit... and seeing as a VW Rabbit one will fit in a 510, it should follow that it'll fit in a 521. Someone else might be able to verify... Do you need a replacement one? If it's super cheap (or free) you might be able to make it work...
-
They look pretty slick... now do a night shot with the lights on. =D
-
The plate on mine lists it as... 959 kg, I believe. I'm not sure if that's empty or normal weight though, and I've got the J13, so it may be slightly different with the L-Series motors...

I used to be big into the aircooled vee-dub rat scene... I still am. I think the old air-cooleds had the right lines for a rat. I've got a bunch of pictures on my computer of ones I liked... I'm hoping to eventually get one myself. As for Datsuns... I think if you were willing to take the time and do a bit of planning, you really could come up with a kickass design that built off the original car but made it a bit more rat-friendly. The rear-engine vee-dub is pretty awesome though...
-
I think VRT hit it right on the head... Fisch, if you were willing to make up some blanks then messing around with colours and styles and all would be a hell of a lot easier... but, then again, these are your pictures, so it's pretty understandable if you'd like to stick to doing your own... That is a pretty sick ride though... I don't think I've ever seen the 50's Datto's, but it reminds me of an oversized Austin Mini... And those blinkers are awesome.
-
I need a fender... Shame.
-
Hahaha, agreed... do you have pics of the whole swap, or just of the current state? I was dreaming one day and trying to figure out how to shove a 3.0 inside the compartment, but just decided it wasn't for me. It would make a hell of a drive though...
