  1. let's see, dirty air intake, car would only start if parked at a certain angle, and no change in idle fif the #1 plug is detached at the dizzzy while running. spark on all cylinders. i haven't checked or set valve lash. and no, fuel doesn't pump where it's at because it's parked wrong,
  2. it started with a fuel issue. this is why everybody i know keeps telling me that an electric fuel pump is what i need. what i really need is to find the problem, because there no way the cars came off the line only capable of starting when the fuel is in the righthand side of the tank..
  3. any way this could be casued by a lack of fuel pressure? doesn't make sense to me, but a sanity check would be appriciated..
  4. so my theory is disproven. the valve springs articulate fine...
  5. spark is good on #1. just left it attached to the dizzy and touched it to the body. i have no ohmeter. so what say ye now?
  6. sorry, i have left may details out of my desripction. air filter is decent, not perfect, but the best one i have. fuel filter i've recently replced, about two months ago. pulled it off today and it has no blockage or anything. what if the valves are all closed? why would it not hold compression? if you pull #1's spark plug off at the distributor end, there is no difference in the idle.
  7. i have a 77 B210 with an A14, and my it recently started having fuel problems.(not enough fuel reaching carb) bought a used fuel pump, no change. bought a new fuel pump. no change. pressure tested fuel line, no holes. started tearing stuff down, found my intake was gunky with solidified unburnt fuel buildup. while doing routine checks and whatnot,(two weeks or so ago) i checked compression, all 4 read fine. put is mostly back together and i find that cyl. 1 is playing dead, but a compression check says it's all fine. my theory is that the cams are not opening #1's valves, which if i'm not mistaken also power the fuel pump? are my cams boned? anybody else had this problem? ps, sorry for no pics, i know you'll ask for them, i don't have my camera ATM or anytime soon...
  8. What's a good aftermarket speedo for an 83 zx?

  9. does everybody like to decapitate their datsun pickups? http://nashville.craigslist.org/cto/3920285751.html
  10. i vote this, you'll have to update suspensin, braking, etc, anyways.
  11. well seeing as your total project cost is measured in five digits, start strong. don't base your whole plan on taking the economical route. if you're gonna drop ridiculous money, the best and only real way to justify it when you're 10k in and want out is being able to look at the car, and still have that same ambitious thought you had when you first saw it. also, check the CL up here in AL. if you've got good friends then you should have someone that can lend you a trailer, because i could fin a non-running s30 or two up here for cheap (er) than your 900.
  12. I say save for a s30, if you're planning on doing an engine swap buy a non running s30 with a decent body. if you plan to swap ANYTHING, LEARN TO FAB. don't rely on your friends for fab, learn it yourself. welding skills also allow you to repair penetrative rust spots. that said, if you buy the $900 car it seems like you're in the hole on elements you would need even with a swap. buy something that's cheap due to engine/ tranny failure. (stuff you would toss anyway) i agree with other members about your time/cost estimates. they always increase. i will end the naysaying in hoping that you can stay true to your goals.
  13. Why did i even buy this thing in the first place?

  14. i've done that, and it's a bitch replacing all the little bits people wanted off the car...
  15. I really should be asleep right now.

  16. i'll take primer'd cars over ones with exposed metal/rust, but if i could put up the work that i have seen a friend of mine pull off with a rattlecan and a newspaper, i would. it's DAMN respectable, foo'.
  17. i wish i knew how to weld, oh the things i would destroy..

  18. then it would stand to reason that there's at least a couple people with yards full of >$200 datsuns bought from scrap auctions....
  19. i was under the impression you could only get salvage titles this way, not road legal ones for registering the vehicle? ethier way at least somebody is saving them!
