  1. Fantastic day! Saw old friends, made many new friends, learned a lot, found new sources for hard to find parts, saw Very cool and creative trucks. Fontana Datsun Dealer George brought his 620 and was full of stories, history, and information (my favorite part,) Shade trees and gazebo made the heat very do-able. Thanks to everyone who worked hard to put this event together and those who cooked in the heat, and to all those that traveled so far to attend. I really treasured the experience. The only thing that could have made it better... More trucks!
  2. was there any books / pamphlets/ updates in your treasure trove specific to 620 pu AC?
  3. Awesome! It is really awesome to get a dealers Datsun experience first hand and be able to ask questions. I'll be there.
  4. Does anyone know if George Koepsel the local 70's Datsun Dealer has been invited or will be attending? I really enjoyed talking with him him about his experiences selling Datsuns, the two times I attended in past years.
  5. Silverstein, tried to PM you a question, but it bounced back saying you aren't accepting mags. Has your mailbox capacity been reached?
  6. If you are going to use a grill emblem buy an early grill with the emblem. Although either grill will mount on your truck perfectly, The early grills have different rib spacing from the later ones where the emblems attach, and the emblems don't interchange between grills.
  7. You're welcome! Always happy to help out! B)
  8. I'm in San Diego and am parting out a 79 620 KC truck. Delivering some parts I got from Canby to friends at Inland Empire meet this Saturday. PM me with any inquiries for parts I can bring to the meet.

  11. The tiny cable is roughly 4 1/16 to 4 1/4" long. Don't have an evaporator in the parts truck, and haven't yet installed the one I sourced from a yard into my 620 yet. Do they really fit that close together it only takes a 4" cable to connect? I have a shout out to my favorite Nissan Parts girl to see if she can shed further light on this. She broke my heart yesterday and said she is leaving today for a new job at a different Mfg dealership in another city, no longer with access to the Nissan parts systems. All the other guys where she works are noobs and don't have any interest in learning the old system that handles 620 stuff.
  12. Sorry it took me so long to get some pics to you. Do you have this bracketry under the console? I finally scored this on a parts truck for my 620.
  13. Yes, and the rain gutter tri around the doors too
  14. Hey Quick 510, I just bought a 620 KC with a seized motor for parts , Door TAG SAYS MFG 8/78 Date stamped above that says 11/78 AZ Title says it was first sold as 79, and was registered as 79 Guess what is attached to inside of tailgate? The same inner panel we were discussing, ditto'ing your PO's statement it was a KC option, not a 79 only opyion
  15. So now the question...are you installing them or selling them? B)
  16. You are awesome.. I have to build a bracket for the pass side so I can still accommodate the smog pump on driver side. You've given me some great ideas for it. Thanks a lot. Would you consider building me one of those awesome universal but stock looking receiver/drier brackets?
  17. A couple questions if I may? What is the clearance between the top of the steering box and the bottom flat plate the compressor bolts to? What is the clearance between inside of compressor and the closest thing to it? Exhaust bracket? Can the back strut support (the back twin of the piece the idler cam bots to) be welded in directly under the rear compressor ears, to reduce the amount of unused plate behind the compressor
  18. Really nice work, clean welds. Simple and clean. Wasn't there a smog pump there on a king cab? B) Wish I could ditch my Smog pump and mount a compressor on the driver side. But living in California it is a real hassle having to smog it every year cuz it is so old. Too bad you don't live closer to me. I'd comission you to do one on the other side! lol
  19. He substantiates your statements exactly. Thanks! (Love the posting by the way. Just an incredible story and experience! You are a fortunate man.) Being a parts manager he was probably one of the few people that knew those options existed. I worked at the first 2nd Datsun Dealer in So. Cal. in the mid 70's and it was one of the first multi-brand auto "malls" in the US. It was also one if the biggest Datsun dealers on the west coast, owned by Joe Vittone of Volkswagon EMPI fame. Parts counters at most US and asian dealerships in those days were typically just a grungy greasy counter in their warehouse someplace. Optional items were not put on the wall or fancy display cases then as they are today. Those were typically only listed on a brochure, had to be ordered, and most people didn't spend lavislhly on cars like people do today. I'm guessing your trucks PO (aka Parts Manager) ordered those options ahead and had them ready to install when he had his truck picked out. Since I've gotten back into Dats 30 years later I've never seen that inside tailgate panel on anyting except a 79. Thanks for helping me document my list of General KC options vs. 1979 only.
  20. Yes, that is the panel I mean. It could have been something he ordered and installed himself. I doubt it came on the truck from the factory originally in 77. You could order a vehicle back in the 70's, but it would take 3-6 months or more to get from Japan. Most cars came with what they had on them. Dealers would buy local options and install them as "dealer options" which meant not factory. That included side molding, camper shells, mirrors, radios, antennaes, bumpers, fiberglass spoilers, and probably some I forget. I've found folks tell me things, and I would really like to take their word for it, but then later I find out what they said may be urban myth, or desire for theirs to be original, or it was wrong altogether. Now I look for documentation mentioning the item in text or showing a picture for proof, like the owners manual, the service manual, or a sales brocure. I've seen vehicles in sale brochures that people think are Nissan flyers but are actually local dealer printed fliers with add on accessories. My logic...I've found some of the 79 options and general optional differences listed in the 79 Nissan Service Manuals, but not in the previous 77, 78, 79,'s So in that case by process of elimintation I group them in my lists as a 79 option, until I can find something to tell me otherwise. I looked for the tailgate panel pics in the prev manuals but didn't find one, but I believe I found found a pic of it in the 79. (I'm at work and can't verify it at this posting. ) I just can't believe they would have made a bowl shaped tail gate for all the earlier year models. It is really hard to sit in, load bikes, or slide heavy loads over without it catching or falling in.
  21. I've never seen trim in a 620 like the ones pictured above. Maybe it was in KC's prior to 79, or possibly overseas and not stateside?
  22. The black door panel above looks to be from a 521 or some other vehicle. The blue ones below are both from a 79 620. One is the stock version that I've seen have a number of patterns. The full panel is the only patten I've seen. All of the ones I've seen so far have have had the same ugly plaid cloth inner panel surrounded by chrome trim (that isn't chrome.) Typically the sun has faded and eaten the cloth away. There were only remnants on mine and I removed them. The chrome trim is plastic tape, not metal. Mine was blistered and peerling and not salvageable, so I peeled it all off. From my observations roaming the junk yards...the full door panel is a 79' option only, just like the inner tailgate panel, the intermittent wipers, and something else I'm forgetting.
  23. You're such a bad dog RD! lmao I've never heard of those sites and got a long way to go before I can quit working...Maybe in your old age you're confusing me with one of your other AARP friends? (I just got called "old" by a Ratsun Senior Member who's retired from the Navy! Ya gotta love that!)
