datsunfish
Why do my wipers go off the windshield on my 72 620. They do it at high or low speed. They also go pretty far low too so I cant adjust them or they will hit the cowl. Slow when cold then faster after a couple minutes. I figured electrical issue but everything is set up pretty well. Good constant charge and newer battery. Also the fan and lights dim a bit when I apply the brake. Doesnt do that on my 521..Alternator? Quote Link to comment
yello620
If the wiper are going to far up and to far down, I am betting that the wiper motor has been changed and the replacement motor had a slightly longer arm on the motor. The longer arm creates more travel to the wiper arms. Maybe you can measure the arm on the motor so you can compare to others. Center-to-center of the mounting point on the motor and the pivot point for the linkage. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
If it does it more on hi speed than low then the linkage joints are worn. Lift the wiper arm off the glass and check for side to side play. Doesn't take much. If not fixed it will wear the windshield rubber gasket! Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
If the linkage bushings are worn, you can get new ones in the HELP sectin at your local parts house. You will have to modify them a bit as they aren't really for a datsun. Quote Link to comment
420n620
what is the "HELP" part #er on those. Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
Do the wiper motor have a adjustment stop ???? I heard this before. Maybe ck the haynes manual. I think there is a adjustment for the stop/REST position. let us know Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The 510 and maybe the 521 because very similar, are adjustable by loosening screws and twisting the motor into position. Maybe the early 620 but mine doesn't. Quote Link to comment
datsunaholic
It's not a motor stop issue, it's worn joints. Pretty common. They'll do it worse at freeway speeds because the wind blows the wiper blade past the normal reversing point. Mine got really bad after driving in ice snow- it kept building up on the cowl, so the wipers couldn't return down and it cracked the old rotten plastic pivots. Fortunately they stayed intact enough to keep working, but the wipers had a ton of slop after that. Quote Link to comment

I know the bushings for the wiper shafts are gone but I have them shimmed in place. The rest are probably shot too then. In that assortment pack is there anything for the shaft bushing sleeves? Pretty sure you know which ones I mean. The ones around the shafts that protrude through the cowl that the wiper arms seat onto. Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
Never had to replace those. I imagine you could source one thru mcmaster.com if you measure the shaft and the hole (hehe) I stopped into shmucks today after work. I couldn't find the number at home... Here's the package you need This is the bushing to use, you just need to modify it like in the pic's above. Thanks for the nudge 420n620 :) Quote Link to comment
