inline4
We should have a mini-meet! my 510 is currently parked in union city, along with my KA. I have no clue what i'm doing :o I actually need to stop by dgr and source some parts for the ka swap.. you work there? Quote Link to comment
tangent
Love it.. only vehicle... considering buying a beater.. Thanks for inspiring me to get my swap started and sell one of my newer rides! Quote Link to comment
makibaka
I actually need to stop by dgr and source some parts for the ka swap.. you work there? Nope, don't work there. But I like to give props where props are due. Dan put a lot of his free time and offered to do alot of fab work when he didn't have to especially after trudging on other project cars all day and all weekend long. I contacted a couple of other shops about fabbing up some mounts so I wouldn't have to take too much time off and do the swap in my garage, but they didn't seem to want to help me because I had a "truck" and not a 510. Dan's the only one who wanted to tackle it and is one of the first if not THE first to do a SR20DET swap in a 521 so I feel it should be recognized as such. I just feel lucky it got to be my truck :D Plus, Dan seems more excited about the project than I am and I'm going nuts about it. Anyway, sorry for the long story. I just feel emotional right now with my truck so close to being finished :P BTW when you drop by DGR, tell Dan that Joma sent you. He'd be excited to hear that people know about the truck... Icehouse
Sorry, guys. One thing I forgot to add to my intial post: stock down pipe/turbine elbow won't fit without contacting the frame. Dan's making a custom 3" downpipe to clear which will fit my power goals nicely... I had the same problem with my KA, dam torsion bars :D Yes, lotsa smoke. We all need to get together and have some company do a run of LSDs for a decent price (cheaper than switching to a narrowed Ford/Toyota/RX-7 rear end anyway). Persision gear makes them for the H190, I'm not a diff specialist or anything but it says on there page H190. I called the cost about 429 if I remember right. I can't remember what the place is called but there number is 1 800 770 0524 I think it will hold way more than 200whp, well once you get a LSD, the spider gears are what give up. Love it.. only vehicle... considering buying a beater.. Thanks for inspiring me to get my swap started and sell one of my newer rides! Only if its another datto :D It keeps you working hard when you miss your daily.... Trust me :( Nope, don't work there. But I like to give props where props are due. Dan put a lot of his free time and offered to do alot of fab work when he didn't have to especially after trudging on other project cars all day and all weekend long. I totally agree, some people just don't appreciate the extra effort/labor. That is rad Dan puts the extra effort in your project. You know you are getting his top quality work to :D Hmmm.. just got these I took the first day I brought it home... Needs alot of work, but she'll be a quick little bugga! Your defiantly at the right pace ;) Quote Link to comment

makibaka
UPDATE BOV mounted and intake pipe finished: fuel lines should be plumbed up soon: Daniel's getting intimate with the fuel plumbing :) Downpipe flange TIG welded! Some more downpipe parts; 3" and stainless. Yummy! Borla 2.5" turbo muffler Trying out a couple of different batteries to fit under the old 521 fuel evap cover: Should be fired up real soon! Video to follow :D Quote Link to comment
makibaka
Crap! Forgot to mention that the stock battery and tray have to be removed! I updated the first post with this info... Quote Link to comment
makibaka
Some other happenings at the shop you guys might be interested in: 510 wagon getting an RB (I'll get the link for more pics on it). Wild stuff! DGR 510 custom rack and pinion subframe for those looking for an alternative to their steering box: bunch of engines and trannys looking for new homes :D Pictures of Dan's crazy yellow 510 in action and a couple of customer cars featured in some magazines... Shop buggy project with 510 shortened struts up front: Dan imagining how much faster this thing would be if it had a seat and rear tires. Quote Link to comment
makibaka
how much is this running you so far? if you dont mind me asking... You know I'm scared to stop and check. I'm laughing as I type this because Dan, Daniel, and I were talking earlier about how when I dropped off the truck two weeks ago, it was just supposed to be 2 engine mounts and a tranny crossmember. And maybe a radiator. Then we said we might as well put in a fuel pump that can handle the motor. That lead to fuel lines being plumbed. Well if the pump was going to be plumbed, let's get the motor to point so that it can be started at least. Well if we're going to do that, we might as well finish off the radiator and the intercooler and wire the bad boy up. Better install GReddy intake mani I've always liked now so the charge pipes won't have to redone later. Oh, but the oil pan needs to be replaced. Since we're going to drop the oil pan, might as well order up that GReddy pan that I've always liked to make sure the new steering link clears. Since the truck's on the rack, let's do a 3" downpipe. Today, we all looked at each and said that the funny thing was that none of us bothered to say, "Stop! This could get expensive!". Instead we kept saying, "THAT'S COOL! LET'S DO THAT!" :) And I haven't regreted a single moment of it :D Quote Link to comment
makibaka
I had the same problem with my KA, dam torsion bars :D Yup, love the adjustability of the torsion bars, but they gotta go if I want any decent ground clearance with a 3" exhaust. Persision gear makes them for the H190, Hmmm... I need to read up on the LSD post... Dam! I need a second job! I totally agree, some people just don't appreciate the extra effort/labor. That is rad Dan puts the extra effort in your project. You know you are getting his top quality work to :D Dan and Daniel ROCK. I always bump into guys who spend all this money on fancy parts, but expect quality labor to install these parts at dirt cheap prices. Usually, I find out later that these same guys also pay someone to change their oil for them so I figure they'll never understand the value of the labor, thought, and engineering that goes into quality work unlike people who actually wrench on cars themselves. I'm just happy to find a shop I can trust my truck with. I'm the type to wrench on my car myself because I trust NO ONE else to touch my baby. My tools at home are getting a little jealous though :o But they'll be happy once I get around to putting the disc brakes on. :D Quote Link to comment
makibaka
Those seats look comfy.. what are they out of?? And do the headrests come out of them?? Those were installed by the last owner out of a VW jetta. He welded them directly to the floor pan to fit him perfectly. Problem is he's 5' 7" and I'm 6'. The steering wheel is so close, I could steer with my nipples  The headrest do come out, but are stuck because they're wedged up against the window. I want to do a bench seat because my doggies like to get rides :D Dude I need to drive the somebitsh... seriously... Can you video poppin its cherry>>?? Video of it firing up is coming VERY soon! Quote Link to comment

Give me a call one of these days. Im with the other locals. We nee to get a bunch of us together down here. It was good talking to you again, Brandon! We definately should get all the Datsun freaks together. I was talking to Dan, and he might start hosting like a monthly mini-meet at his shop. He might chime in on the forums tonight so... (i hope) well god this is so inspiring man, your a fucking poineer!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks for all the pics and the story in all, im excited for you, make some videos!!!! DO IT! DO AN SR! I'm trying to document as much of this process as possible so if others want to do the swap they can see what stuff they have to think about. It drove me crazy to try to find info about this swap (which was basically none for a 521) so I hope this thread will be useful... Quote Link to comment
Icehouse
Wow I've seen pics of that wagon before, its sick! I wish I lived closer, it would be cool to check out the shop and see your rig. After seeing the first post I didn't think you where so close to being finished. Wow you are close!! I was going to ask why you kept the 2 piece driveline? Not that there is anything wrong with them. Man this is a great read! Keep the pics coming to buddy :) Quote Link to comment
DGR Fab
Yep, the wagon has sat like that for 2 years. Someday. I'll get the boat and the go kart thingy done first. The 521 is coming along. Bunch of work to get this thing going, but MAN is it going to be worth it. It's gotten a little out of hand, yes :D but right the first time is the plan, right? Should run tomorrow, drive by (hopefully) Thursday evening... Dan Quote Link to comment
DGR Fab
The 2 PC driveshaft was retained, because the rear will go thru some revision in the future, so spending big bucks on a custom one PC driveshaft didn't make sense. Yet. :) WHAT is going in the rear end? Wouldn't you like to know. Unless Joma wants to tell you.... Quote Link to comment
Fineline
DGR Fab, great to see you on the forum. I am local with Joma and have seen some of your work. Nice job and keep up the good work. Quote Link to comment
