Draker
Does it run, drive, stop? Those floors will probably need some metal replaced. Single headlight 520, good stuff. Even for California, 7k is probably a bit high for a 520. Maybe $4-5k.. maybe. 1 Quote Link to comment

Thank you for your input. I crawled under the truck and there were no holes rusted through. I was thinking around 5000 as well. I just want it so bad haha. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Check... That you can shut it off and turn on easily 3-4 times when warmed up. That signals and 4 way work, that all parking/running lights work Headlights on high beam do not cause the charge light to come on in the dash That the E brake will hold the truck on an incline. That there is minimal play in the steering wheel. That the wipers and heater fan work and that there is heat when warmed up. That when braking the truck does not pull excessively to one side and that the brake pedal does not pulse under your foot. That you have a spare and a jack kit with lug wrench and a hand crank to lower the spare. That all 4 tires are a match for size and preferably make and all have the same hub caps. Look underneath. No brake fluid wetness on any of the drums or backing plates. No oil wetness on the front of the differential where the driveshaft joins. No wetness from oil where the drive shaft meets the rear of the transmission. Under the hood. No oblivious leaks. Check rad cold for clear green/yellow antifreeze coolant. Check oil. If golden it may just mean he changed it, and that's ok. If black he doesn't care much. Same if it has a fram oil filter. Check brake and clutch master cylinders are topped up and the fluid clear. 2 Quote Link to comment

You are always so damn helpful thank you so much. Unfortunately this guy was selling it for a friend who was in mexico so he had no real idea about anything having to do with the truck it seemed like I was the first guy to check it out. It didnt start at first so we swapped the battery and then it started after about 20 seconds of holding the key turned. after that it started right up a couple times after. Oil seemed alright. Everything was ready to go and I was stoked to test drive it. I then backed out only to realize the brakes were not working and pulled the e brake. Checked for brake fluid. Also once I had it pulled out of the driveway I realized there were also a couple rust holes in the passenger side floorboard. So I passed on it. I didnt want to but I did. I need something a little more together right now. I dont mind learning and doing things myself thats part of why I want a Datsun but it was too overwhelming for my limited experience and it was a lot of rust. I'm new to this checking out cars in person thing so if I did anything off or wrong please let me know. I'm tryin to learn! Thank you for all you help. 2 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Even for $5K it better have working brakes and good floors. It doesn't really matter if he or a neighbor is selling it. Anything a seller tells me I ignore and check it myself. 3 Quote Link to comment
angliagt
You were really smart to walk away from it. I looked at a '74 Jaguar XJ6L (Maroon) once. It was a gorgeous looking car.I took a friend of mine who is a really good mechanic back with me to look at it a second time.He talked me out of buying it. We figured that I'd be better cutting a hole in the trunk,& throw $100 bills into it,rather than buying it & fixing it! 1 Quote Link to comment
Draker
I bought a Range Rover after taking it to a mechanic to inspect. He came back with literally two pages of things wrong with it. I was young and dumb and knew nothing of cars and the temptation of it’s beautiful luxury won. I drove it for the next 5 plus years and almost everything that was on that list broke. It cost me thousands. I eventually traded it in for a 95 Honda Accord because I was getting 12mpg and gas was $4/gal. Oh and I had to add cash on top of the trade... 🤣 absolutely loves the rover, but was a piece of total shit right out of the factory. I’m dumb enough to buy another one someday. 3 Quote Link to comment
