Carb Indentification (Update: Identified!)

So I got this 85, and the carb doesn't seem to be either a Weber or a Hitachi. Thoughts? There is some sort of motorcraft indentification on it, but I couldn't pull anything up from it.

Says right on the carb - MotorCraft - a Ford carb.

Assuming that tag meant to identify the carb...how would a ford carb fit on a nissan? Are carb bolt patterns fairly universal?

Look at the base. Looks like an adapter plate to me in the pic. Most folks go weber. Someone got creative. Might work just fine.

Don't matter what brand. Does it work? Any issues? Better is what works.

It's a Holly 5200 made under license from Weber. Weber jets won't fit it but any Holly one will. They were used by Ford in Pintos and Bobcats, probably Capris. This just goes to show you how incredibly old it is.

Hmm, interesting. Imagine figuring that our before the internet?

 

Runs fine, just needs a little juice on startup, but that could be due to a choke not being hooked up, if the carb even has one.

Yep, could be. Helps when u have a choke, specially in cold weather. Tons of info about holley 5200 on the net. Had one of those back in the days with a Capri. Very similar with 32.36 weber. If it works, just dial it in, save ur money.

Update...this carb seemed to have an electronic choke, so I hooked that up to the blue carb wire on that round little plug and it started like a dream!

Great! That's exciting, making things work. What is idle when choke is on?

Wait, I thought if you didn't have to give your rig a bit o juice on start up something was wrong? :thumbup:

Tach doesn't work, but I would guess idle is around 1500.
