Rhapakatui
These old systems should not be monkeyed with. Then I should definitely not own Datsuns. An under dash fire is not fun. Makes a good story though. I keep a fire extinguisher in my car and always in arms reach while working on it. I would be very surprised if a thief took the time to change out the ignition system. We've never really heard HOW the truck was stolen. Many of us were assuming it was hotwired. Now I'm wondering. 1 Quote Link to comment
Emilio's79620
They punched the ignition.. when I had it towed to my mothers I seen it had different and ignition (where the key goes) and regardless if it's connected it still tries to crank itself over I'll take more detailed pics of the wire and the ignition Quote Link to comment
67411sss
first post.. Hey ratsun so my 78 620 was stolen but I had gotten it back without a battery and my ignition The evidence points to forcing ignition lock, no missing around with hot wiring you replaced ignition and battery! is battery good? is ignition good? It should be that simple Quote Link to comment
Emilio's79620
The battery is fine Quote Link to comment
67411sss
what about ignition? Quote Link to comment
67411sss
on your ignition plug , are the terminals burnt? or dirty? Quote Link to comment
Emilio's79620
No neither and yes you were right 4 on the wire and 5 on the ignition Quote Link to comment
Emilio's79620
The wires don't look tampered with and the ignition was punched and nothing was there when I had got the truck back Quote Link to comment
Emilio's79620
Regardless if the ignition is plugged in or not it stills sparks and it still tries to start itself Quote Link to comment
Emilio's79620
I was thinking it had to either been something with the starter or the ignition Quote Link to comment
Emilio's79620
But a friend said since it was sparking on the negative there had to be a short Quote Link to comment
Rhapakatui
http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=940143&cc=1210150&jnid=426&jpid=1 This is the ignition switch that rockauto has listed for the 620 and 720. It has 5 plugs also. I'm guessing the 5th plug makes it work with 720s. Doesn't matter if it's trying to start when it's not plugged up. Quote Link to comment
Emilio's79620
Could it be because the starter I bought is the wrong one or what Quote Link to comment
Emilio's79620
Rha that's the one I have Quote Link to comment
67411sss
yeah, just trying to rule things out and understand how the truck was stolen . one more question.. the blue wire on the female side of the ignition runs to the radio on factory specs. does yours? Quote Link to comment
Rhapakatui
Could it be because the starter I bought is the wrong one or what I don't think so. I'm not a mechanic, but I've switched out a few starters. As long as nothing's jumping it across the solenoid, it shouldn't be turning over. You really need a multimeter to find where the short is. If your buddy is a mechanic, he should have one. Ask him to bring it over. Buy him some beer and study the wiring diagram that I linked to til he gets there. Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
Was I PMing you a few months ago about a new ignition lock cylinder? This thread is getting cluttered, difficult to follow. Things should be brought back to square one and a detailed description of repair should be given. Yikes. 1 Quote Link to comment
Emilio's79620
Yeah the blue wire does sorry but my friend said he's 90% sure my brand new starter isn't the correct one or its faulty he said the solenoid on it is bad it just kept spinning Quote Link to comment
