Spiff
This probably sounds strange, but I know many people lower their truck with the torsion bars, if I install the belltech lowering spindles on my 720, will it be possible to raise it back to stock height again with the torsion bars? Because the authorites here are pretty strickt about what modifications you can do to your car and most mods require approval of some sort, usually TÜV approval papers. So If I get pulled over I'll probably get faulted for lowering the car and and will have to show it in stock heigth withing 2 weeks. Adjusting the torsion bars just sounds easier than swapping over to oem spindles...?? 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
A couple if inches, I think so, yes. 1 Quote Link to comment
oldskoolvws
In theory, yes. If they are "home" or the neutral factory position, you should have 2"-3" of travel both ways. Why not just change the spindles back out and sell the drop spindles. You should come out ahead. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
He wants to run lowered but be able to quickly raise it to stock if caught. It's illegal to lower ride height in Norge. 1 Quote Link to comment
Spiff
Well, as long as you get it approved by our equivalant to the DMV then it's not illegal. The problem is they require the lowering parts(springs, coilovers, spindles etc) to have some kind of certification. Which you can't get for many older cars and usually not on parts from the US since you guys don't have the same requirements :) So THIS lowering will be illegal ;) 1 Quote Link to comment
thisismatt
You camber will be way off when you lift it up, but not a big deal if you're dropping it back down. 1 Quote Link to comment
Spiff
Right, this will only be temporary so I'm not concerned about that :) Quote Link to comment
oldskoolvws
Now that makes sense. Note to self, read entire thread. Not easier to bag or air shock all 4 corners? Quote Link to comment
Spiff
Nah, you see, you have to go to a trafficstation or a garage to show them you have put it back to original height. There they usually check the springs or struts in the case of regular cars. So airbags would be easily spotted... On this car I suspect they would check to see if lowering blocks where removed and since it has torsion bars up front I think they'll just eyeball the height since dropping it on the torsion bars is a well known trick. The entire undercarriage is planned to be sandblasted, painted and given an antirust treatment so the dropspindles and control arms and everything will look the same, otherwise the spindles would have been easy to spot once the car is in the air... We'll see how it goes :) I've driven years with lowered cars without any troubles, and other times I've been stopped after only a few days, no biggie just the small hassle of changing it back to stock, show it, then back on with the lowering parts B) 1 Quote Link to comment
petercscherer
Actually, the dropped spindles look very stock once they are installed so it'll be easy to pass the visual inspection from that point. Raising the front with the torsion bars has been done by a few of the off-road guys on the forums; so no problems there. Let us know how it turns out!~Peter 1 Quote Link to comment
distributorguy
The change in toe and camber may make the truck undrivable when you change the ride height. It will require adjustment. Just keep track of how many turns you change the toe adjustment and put it back when you lower it back down. 1 Quote Link to comment
Spiff
Bringing this up again as I now need to raise it about an inch, does anyone know how many turns it takes when you crank the torsion bars? Like how much height do you get from one or two turns? Also how will raising it affect toe-in? Does it make the wheels toe in or out? 1 Quote Link to comment
