Ant-dat
After 5 years I have decided it's time I did some work on the 510. So arranged with a friend to bring over his flat bed to move the 510 out of hibernation up to my house.Taking a good battery and some fuel the 510 burst into life and move part way from garage before stalling and refusing to start. It was out far enough to be able to winch it onto flat bed.once at the house after a little investigation the she was running again (rotor arm and moved high enough to no longer be turning). No parked on the driveI had to move the 510 again which refused to start and I have found that the carb is no longer supplying fuel to the engine. I replaced the carb with the one from my L20B to get the car moved but it won't idle and having to rev it about 3k to get it to move I decided to rebuild the original carb.I had opened it and remove some parts during investigations but you can see how much of a state it's in.After a few hours workTonight it's refitted and running sweet. I would have used a rebuild kit but the car won't be on the car once the L20B is fitted.More to come 2 Quote Link to comment

Ant-dat
It wouldn't take long to get the car on the road (it's only done 60k miles) It only needs sills (think you guys call then rockers), brakes, brake lines and an exhaust. But I have plans afoot and want to try and get all mechanicals refurbished (with some modifications) painted underside treated and engine bay painted before new engine is fitted, 5 speed dog leg box, interior sorted. I have a pile of parts on route from Baz at Datsport 2 Quote Link to comment

Ant-dat
due to bad weather i took some time out to do some work on the engine. The original L14 will be replaced with a mild worked L20B. The engine was removed from my Austrailian 200B (inported to Uk 1987) and dry stored it's only covered around 40k miles The strip down, Engine went into a machine shop to over size the bores for the new pistson, sadly they mad a mess of it, see some of the pictures of the state of the block that i got back ? Head and manifold port matching and some polishing the build up After reading a lot of threads on a number of sites I decide to keep the factory manifold (not the L20B but from a L18UK spec) I have also pulled the L14 from the 510 the over the weekend, dropped the full front suspension and striped the bay (pics to follow) Hoping to get some time to prep and paint. This has also allowed me to remove the oil dipstick pipe, sump and oil pickup (all in the cleaner at present). 2 Quote Link to comment

nl320what
Awesome updates... I also was confused with it being RHD with a MPH Spedo and not Kilometers if its all original factory? I see the shop cylinder honing was messy, you didnt opt for a gasket resurface and hot tank chemical dip? Id love to have an L13/L14 motor to do a turbo build. Quote Link to comment
Ant-dat
Hi Thanks for the comments, It is all factory un-touched (well until now) In the UK we have only ever had mph. They sure did make a mess, I have ran the block in my ultrasonic cleaner and a friends stream cleaner tank. I was a little concerned in getting the block decked due to pushing compression to high. I opted for using a flat surface and sandpaper to prep the surface before fitting new gasket. I have stuck the L14 away in the shed along with the U67 head that may come in handy at some point. I have a couple modded datsun and wanted one with period modifications, so items that could have been fitted to it when it was newish. Sitting patiently waiting on a set of (in the UK) rare Z 14" rims Quote Link to comment

Trophy24
If you don't mind me asking, what is special about the L13 or L14 that makes them desireable for a turbo build? I have an L13 in my Bluebird Quote Link to comment
